Pregnant after IF

Brewer (or other) Diet

Hi Ladies,

Just curious if anyone has come across or been prescribed any pregnancy eating plans like the Brewer Diet- if so, what did you think? It seems like an incredible amount of food to consume every day. I have yet to go to my first OB appointment and I doubt she will recommend anything nearly this regimented. I eat pretty healthy most days but this is over 2500 calories! Maybe all those calories are for those in the second and third tri?

Here are the basics of the Brewer diet but you can find checklists all over the internets.

Re: Brewer (or other) Diet

  • Oh man, there's no way I could eat that much. 2500 cal??? I'm overweight and my metabolism functions 22% below normal...so I'm only eating about 1200 calories/day. I think you're right...it sounds like that's for the 2nd and 3rd tri....you should only be consuming 100 extra calories, if that, in the 1st tri. That's what my nutritionist told me anyway.
Keep us updated on what your OB says...I'm kind of interested. Maybe I'll ask mine too...my appt isn't until the 20th.

  • I love milk, but I can't imagine drinking a QUART A DAY!!!!
  • Lurking from SAIF: I did the brewer diet. I started around 20w since I learned about it through my bradly class. It was hard getting all the protein, but it kept me focused on eating food that would nourish the baby, rather than giving into cravings, like m&ms.

It is totally doable, but requires meal and snack planning. Good luck!

  • Thanks for your input ladies- asked the OB my mom works for and she said it looked like a good plan but the calorie requirement is way too much for someone my size, so I think I'll just keep trying for the calcium, vitamin and protein requirements with some modifications until my OB appointment next week. It does help me make better choices when I have a checklist of things I need to eat instead of peanut butter parfaits.
