Mr. Dinkus (A/S results)

edited February 2014 in LGBT Parenting
No joke, the ultrasound doctor (not the tech, who used the word "penis") walked in to the room and said, "So, did you see Mr. Dinkus?  That's a technical term.  Only doctors can use it."

We did, in fact, see Mr. Dinkus two or three times.  He was not shy about it, but I will admit I have no idea what I was looking at and would never have identified it as a penis if it wasn't pointed out to me.  Oh well -- no one has ever accused me of being knowledgeable about penises.  Or ultrasound images.

Mr. Baby was feeling pretty mellow (maybe sleepy?); he was moving around but not a ton -- tech said this is normal and he might have been sleeping.  However, he wasn't in the best position for measuring stuff (had his arms up by his face like a boxer and his legs tucked up against his body) and didn't feel like changing position.  I can be both stubborn and lazy so this is not a surprise.  His hb was great and all his organs and limbs look just perfect.  The only (minor) issue was that my placenta is still partially attached to my cervix (is this placenta previa)?  They said that it not unusual at this point but they are going to check again at 28w.  If it doesn't budge, I will need a c-section, but I don't really care.  Do I want a c-section?  No.  Will I be thrilled if that's the worst thing that happens in my pregnancy?  YUP.

We didn't get fantastic pictures today but here's the best one.

Re: Mr. Dinkus (A/S results)

  • Great news!  Yes, that's placenta previa - I had partial placenta previa earlier in my pregnancy and it resolved.  My doctor told me that a high percentage of previas resolve, so hopefully yours will.  But, agreed about the C/S. Thank goodness technology exists to catch such things and to deliver babies via C/S when vaginal delivery isn't safe.  So excited for you and Mr. Baby!

  • Such good news, and you have a handsome Mr. Baby in there! Hopefully he stays mellow :)

As for the c-section, I hope that the previa resolves before your 28wk check, but if it doesn't I am glad that you are not going to stress over the alternative. You are right, if a c-section is the biggest challenge you face this pregnancy, then bring it!

    So happy for you! :)

  • Good to hear Mr. Baby is doing great. Love this newest pic :-). Gotta say this is why I love modern technology - it's so great to be informed. Plus I love the u/s and seeing what's going in there. I kind of wish I had a built in window so I could peak in everyday. Anyway. I hope the placenta previa resolves (it sounds like that's likely), but if not I agree a healthy pregnancy first and foremost. :-)

  • So awesome!

The tech at our A/S got a great shot of Mr. Dinkus, and wrote "BOY" on the pic just above it.  Subtle.

I echo @herbabymama exactly about c-section and healthy pregnancy.

  • Hurrah for a great scan. I too have heard that most placenta's move. My sister had the same thing with her last baby and it moved by her next scan. Here's to hoping yours does too.
