UO Thursday

Shall we?!

I didn't like my Facebook look back video. It had a few cute things in it, but I would have chosen some different post.

People who have a facebook for objects, pets, the baby are just strange. I got a invite from a 2 month old child's page. Really? Give me some of that spare time your not using.

(Need coffee to start brain, be back with more)  :)

I am not sure how unpopular this is, but I see it way too much. I hate when I see names that use a y in place of a vowel that could work. For example Lauryn instead of Lauren.
We are using a Y in the place of another vowel. But really, Lacon looks like Bacon. Laken just doesnt look right. Y was about our only option.. and I Love her name and spelling!! :)
Is this a popular name in your area that there are so many spellings? I have never heard of Lakyn in any form. Not trying to be mean just curious.
No. It baffles me that no one here has ever heard of the name Lakyn.. or Lacan, Lacon, Laken, Lakin or Laykin. Its not a yoonique name at all.
I've heard it and Lakelynn a few times.  I've seen it Lakin and Laykin more often.  The first three spellings look weird.

ive heardof Laken, but never that spelling youre using which is why I still always say Lack-in.

I have no desire to potty train or move K to a toddler bed. She has an Elmo potty that she will sit on occasionally but it's such an ordeal to get her diaper off only for her to decide she doesn't actually want to sit on it. I'm also not even thinking about getting rid of the paci because she only uses it for sleeping. She sleeps so well and I don't want to mess anything up.
This is more of a confession, but I'm the same way regarding potty training. I haven't even bought her anything for potty training yet and only put her on the toilet once because she was in the tub and I didn't want to have to start all over again. I know I should get going on it but I'm just lazy.
I've done nothing either.   I am lazy, but I honestly don't think E's anywhere near ready, so I'm not concerned.  About the only thing I do differently is pee in front of her.

  • I am also very excited to watch the Winter Olympics. Winter/ summer, doesn't matter I just enjoy watching them.

I'm super over age limits on kids activities in our area. Everything I look at bringing LO to they have an age limit of 2-3 years and up. Our library does it too. They had one story time that was for 18 mo under but they canceled it. I will bring him anyways, but it is just odd to me that they limit the ages.

I have a friend who spells it Layken. It is definitely easier to figure out pronunciation that way than a lot I've seen. Lacon definitely would be a total no. Laken and Lakin I like though. But then again, I am one of those people that prefers more classic spellings. I really do love the sound of the name Laken though! So pretty.

I will admit that I thought you were pronouncing it Lack-in and I was kind of put off at first. I think your spelling could easily be pronounced that way. Obviously that doesn't bother you though so that's fine! :)

  • I'm in the camp with the not ready to potty train people. Yesterday Oliver pooped 3 times and I was like OMG I can't wait to be done with this. Then I remembered I'll have to clean the poop and pee out of his little potty.
Ew gross, no! This is why I do not understand the love of the little potties. I guess my UO is that I hate them and think they are a pointless, gross, unnecessary added step to the process. Get a step stool and a seat cover thing and let them climb right up to the big one! Also I hate some of the shirts with sayings but I think some are hilarious. For example:

I 100% agree with all of this.

  • I get the dislike for the little potty, but I don't think we'll have a choice. I put Milo on the big potty once when he decided to poop in the tub and he FLIPPED out. I don't see him training on the big potty, no matter how much more convenient it would be for me.

See we have a little ring that goes on the potty that's connected to a step ladder and K LOVES it! I just say "wanna go sit on the potty?" and he runs to his bathroom and climbs up (still needs help turning around a sitting though). He knows what to do once he is on there and usually pees and pushed as if he is trying to poop. I say about 50% of the time he poops and he almost always pees at least a little. However, he does not let us know in any way when he is about to poop, so it is me making the decision of when to sit him on the potty. He is on a decent poop schedule so luckily I can usually make it before he messes in his diaper.

  • I think everyone who is trying to potty train is crazy, lol. I was the same way with DD#1 and I have learned. The concept of no diapers is great, but going to the potty every time you enter a store, are in the middle of shopping/eating, and before you leave is a PITA. At least with DD#1 she would say she had to potty at the most inconvenient times, and I had to take her or risk an accident. I'm willing to give Avery a bit more time.
We really aren't "trying" to potty train, its just way easier for me when we are home to plop him on the potty rather than change a messy diaper. He likes it, I like it, so why not? And honestly, I don't think it's crazy at all. All families are different so what worked for you might be totally the opposite of what works for someone else. Nothing crazy about it, just life. :)

I can't stand floor length skirts.  I'm all about maxi dresses, but not skirts.  I think people who wear them look like hippies
    :P
Here in NYC, if someone's in a floor length skirt, odds are very good they're part of a religious group that requires women to not wear pants.

I dislike Walmart also, but it is the only place we can get Z glasses that is local.  People actually try to make me feel bad about the fact that we buy his glasses there.  Despite the fact that they have two cashiers at any given time and don't pay a living wage, their vision center has been nothing but great to us.  We are on our fifth pair of frames under this warranty, no questions asked and have been in for multiple repairs and adjustments.

@TaviaBrad this is totally not against your comment, because like I said I dislike shopping at Walmart too and its not really an UO, but I just needed to vent I guess

  • I love floor length skirts, but I have long legs so they're never truly "floor length" for me. Once I find one that's long enough I wear it a lot. But I'm in CA and we're expected to be hippies around here ;)

My UO: I hate 3D movies. I've never seen one that actually enhanced the movie experience for me. Plus I get a migraine for like a day afterward. I hope it goes out of style soon because it's taking up precious screen space in my theaters.

I love maxi dresses! I'm to big for shorts, like seriously nobody wants to see that.  When it's hot as hell outside nothing like a cool maxi dress you can throw on in a few seconds and still look cute.

I think there are valid reasons for not wanting to shop at Walmart but this is kind of a strange one.

Well last time I fully did an UO over on the Nov 13 boards it was a big ordeal even though it was an opinion. So this time around I will just be more vague that I do not like Walmart, however, I had to run in there once for something as a last resort and nobody knew where anything was and they didn't have the small shopping baskets either. It was a fail.

  • I can not think of my own UO, but I will share my opinion on pp UOs :)

    - I like Beattles but I did not know anything about the beattles anniversary media coverage since I don't watch/like news.

    - I love maxi dresses and skirts - so slimming.

    - I also get a worst migraines from 3D movies.

    - I like to watch winter Olimpics especially figure skating and skiing.

    - (More of a confession) I never shopped in Wallmart.

Girl where are you shopping? You can get them at hippie stores for $10 and I've seen many at places like Target and Old Navy.
LOL we dont have hippie stores around here! I live in the country ;).  I have seen a few at Target and Old Navy but they are normally $20 and super thin.  LC has some at Kohls I like but I am waiting for a sale + 20% coupon to get one
A maxi skirt is probably the single easiest clothing item to sew. Do you own a sewing machine? If so, check out some youtube tutorials on sewing an elastic waistband and hemming and wah lah! Maxi skirt for the price of supplies! (prob around $8)

  • And my issue with maxi skirts is I never know what tops to wear with them. They are usually to thin to tuck a top in without it bulging under the skirt, but untucked tops look weird to me. What do y'all wear with them? I like them, but this top predicament keeps me from ever wearing the 1 that I own. @chipmunk112511 @jfresh

I wear plain fitted tee shirts. Like the v neck or boat neck style you can find most places? I don't tuck them in.
I either do a tank top or flowy shirt like a straight up hippie. But I live by the beach so that may have something to do with it...

I mean...those two reasons are understandable. But not going because of pictures of people on a website is not.

Have you seen that website? I think it is just me being weird. I just do not like the fact that a store has its own website dedicated to the craziness that goes on there. Some of the stuff and people have taken pictures of is weird but funny but disturbing all at the same time. I don't know. It just bothers me for some strange reason.

I'm not a fan of cupcakes. Don't get me wrong, I will eat one if it's all that is available, but I like an even frosting to cake ratio which is impossible to achieve without a fork. And if I have to use a fork it defeats the purpose. I prefer a slice of cake!

This seems like such a simple solution. LOL. Maybe I didn't think of it because I honestly don't think I own plain fitted tops other than some maternity ones that would be too long. How do I not have a top like this??? Most of mine are not fitted enough to look good (IMO) or are far too long (kind of tunic style). I obviously just need to go shopping.

  • I never thought I could wear a maxi skirt because I'm short, I figured it would swallow me up and look weird. I bought my first and only the summer we were pregnant, from Old Navy Maternity. I was super sad last summer that I didn't have one anymore. Yay for wearing it again this summer!
