Baby Shower-How many of your gifts actually came from your registry?

Am just curious.  I am extremely grateful for anyone who attends and brings a gift but am curious as to what others experiences were.  I see only about 10 items gone from my BBB registry, 2 from PBK and 1 from Restoration Hardware.  Again, grateful, I'm just a registry type of gift-giver as I'm a pickier person so curious. :)

Thanks!

Re: Baby Shower-How many of your gifts actually came from your registry?

  • I only registered at one place so most, if not all my stuff on my registry was bought
  • Loading the player...
  • Only about 14 items from babies r us were purchased but they were the large items and about 19 from my target registry.....I wish I only registered at babies r us!
  • I got a lot from the registry and a lot that wasn't. The stuff that wasn't, I was careful to save gift receipts. Thankfully they were from stores where I like to shop and could use store credit.

About 50% of the gifts I received were from my registry . I was surprised because at my wedding shower, which was attended by the same group of people as my baby shower, everyone stuck to my registry. I'm going to be honest (and I will probably be flamed for this) but I received lots of useless clothing (tuxes for infants, scratchy polyester baby suits that no child would ever wear, and a snow suit that will only fit him in the dead of summer) and I was a tad disappointed. I got over it though and you're correct--- the only decent response is gratitude. Still, go into your shower expecting lots of clothing that you may never use and a few "wtf were they thinking?" gifts. At the end of the day, I am just glad that there are people who cared enough about me to attend and to purchase a gift at all.

EDIT: Also wanted to add that I had only two registries- BRU and Pottery Barn and only my sheet/bedding set was on Pottery Barn. I got all of the pottery barn registry (the sheet/bedding set) and half of BRU (which was everything else). I will say that family and close friends bought up most of the bigger gifts (car seat, swing, etc). We did not register for furniture (crib, etc.) --we purchased the nursery set.

  • I would say about half my stuff came from my one registry at Target. Oddly or shockingly - I got NO diapers and NO books. Weird, but super thankful for everything I did get!
  • The majority of my gifts weren't from my registry. I must admit I have been exchanging a lot of items. I wish my guest would have stuck to the registry as well. Luckily I did get gift cards to where I registered and that helped tons!
  • I am team green, and in my opinion, people tend to stick to the registry way more when not presented with the opportunity to buy adorable gender specific baby clothes (bc, let's be honest, the neutral stuff isn't nearly as cute!). I received almost all registry gifts. In fact, we had to go buy some clothes because we received so few.

With that being said, I am and would be grateful for any gifts received! People should not be expected to buy what you want for your LO. It just worked out for us, and like I said, I really think being team green helped that.
  • Thank you all! I'm genuinely grateful, just a first time mom and not am super curious as to what others experiences were. A gift is a gift! :-)

We are team Green & we only got 5 or 6 things off our registry. The shower was very odd to me. Not like other showers I've attended. I felt like because people didn't have the option to buy blue or pink, they just didn't buy anything.

  • We specifically said we didn't expect gifts but would simply enjoy everyone's presence to celebrate LOs upcoming arrival for our showers. We bought all of our own big ticket items but did register on Amazon and at Giggle for those who were asking. That said, we received about 50% of what we registered for as well as some incredibly thoughtful handmade gifts (3 quilts even!) and an overabundance of girly clothes, both new and hand-me-downs. Gratitude all around for the overwhelming generosity of our friends, family and co-workers :)

I felt like ours went the same being team green. We got more gift cards than anything else.

  • I think we got about 1/3 of what we had registered for at BRU.  We had not revealed the sex yet, so as PP have said I think this does tend to lead people to stick more to the registry  then if they know the sex.

3 quilts? That's amazing, how thoughtful!
My grandmother made LO a blanket, she does for all babies. I still have mine! I'm looking forward to wrapping him up in it

  • @ziggy903 - yep, both grandmas did one each and a bunch of my girlfriends organized a communal effort!

  • None of my gifts did.  I didn't tell anyone that I registered anywhere.
