Anybody know if this sippy counts as a true straw sippy? Do I need to look for something different as a straw cup? I know I need to get him off if the spouts and moved to straws for proper oral development but didn't know if this is a good cup.

It look more like a nipple than a straw to me, since it doesn't look like it extends down into the liquid. But if anyone has good suggestions for first straw cups, I would appreciate them as well.

I use a Nuby for my son. It's not that one. But the kid wouldn't do the spout ones so we went straight from boob (he refused bottles) to the straw.

The Playtex straw cups are well-loved on DD's BMB, and DD likes them. I started using one at the same time as a sippy to introduce it, and she got the hang of it really fast.

That looks more like a squirt bottle type thing, I'm guessing it doesn't have a straw.

We're huge fans of the playtex straw cups

I'll check in to those. The packaging called it a straw cup and their website talks about it being good for proper oral development but I wasn't sure. It does seem more like a kid's version of a sport cup.

Wait at what age are you suppose to take them off the sippy cup? DD is 14m old and drinks out of a sippy.

It looks like you tip it to get the liquid, so I'd say no. We use the take and toss straw cups. The straws stay really well in them.

These were our favorites. Not a straw cup, but not bad for the mouth/teeth like a spout. It's like a kids version coffee tumbler.

These are my DS's favorite, they're Nuby but with the skinny straw. They have ones with fat straws and they're too big. I don't have an issue w these leaking. Avent also makes a good one that doesn't leak and has a lid that twists so the straw is covered to put in your diaper bag etc. I've found that playtex leaks. I hate tommy tippee, it's hard to get fluid through the straw. I swear we've tried every cup on the market. Nuby and avent work best for us. We use take and toss when I'm watching him, but the straws don't have a valve so they leak and my DS figured out how to pull the straw out very quickly. They have a normal straw flow so he gets choked up more frequently but we use those for meals when I can prevent him from removing the straw and tossing it on the floor. The others are good for diaper bags/car rides in his play room etc.

Hmm...my DS got the hang of a straw before the hang of a sippy cup. Sippy cup usually ended up in big mess at first.

Now he uses them interchangeably, but still sometimes tries to tip the straw cups up like he is drinking out of a regular glass.

Dd can do the straw, sippy or tumbler kind. We like the tumblers best because I haven't found a straw cup that really doesn't leak.

I think anything that requires LO to develop a sucking motion to get the drink instead of just tipping the cup back is a good first step. We did this one:

We used the NUK straw cup but I can't see that they make it anymore?

This is what we used at 18+ months. It makes a mess when tipped but DD always got frustrated with the slow flow valves
