Baby Shower-How many of your gifts actually came from your registry?

Just curious...Having one this weekend, so will be grateful no matter what, but am very curious and I am always a registry gift giver for others, but only see a few of my items gone.  Also-did you receive any items from your registry that later when you went to see what was bought, were tagged as such?

Thanks! :)

Re: Baby Shower-How many of your gifts actually came from your registry?

  • About half of our gifts came from our registry.  Like you, I am grateful for any gifts, however several people gave gifts (not from our registry) without a gift receipt.  That was annoying.
  • Loading the player...
  • I'd say 40%. Received a lot of alternate baby clothes and toys.
  • With DS1 - well, I had a minimal registry in the first place. No clothes or toys since I figured people liked to choose those things. We also had a small shower, about a dozen guests. Only 2 people purchased off the registry.

  • Probably only like 10%. I got some really awesome gifts that weren't on it though!
  • Mine is this weekend too and I've gotten many gifts from my registry already but they've all been delivered and are from the people who couldn't make it to the event. It appears that no one coming to the actual event is buying anything from the registry.

But my mom did warn me that she expected most of our family members to buy clothes and so she told me not to register for clothes because id get so many anyway

  • I would say almost all of mine did. I only had to return two things, it was great!

  • I've had two showers (one for each side of friends/family, in different states,) and surprisingly I would say 75-80% of stuff was from the registry. I have one more shower in a week for church ladies, and I suspect the vast majority will be clothes and not from the registry.

  • I'd say 75% of our gifts came from our registry.

  • I would say maybe 10% of the gifts were off our registry. With that said I got multiples of the same thing that I had listed as wanting one of on my registry; not sure how that happened. I still got some good things though and several gift cards.

  • About 30%, but we loved everything we got! We got a lot of duplicates from our registry. I feel bad returning but we really don't need 3 piano play mats.
  • Everything but gift cards, checks and 1 outfit was from ours.
  • I'm in the same position - shower is this weekend, 25 people have RSVP'd, yet only 6 gifts have been purchased off my registries. I will be extremely grateful for any gift, but just thinking ahead as to how many of the necessities I will need to purchase on my own. Also wondering about duplicates - I noticed at our wedding that some people (especially older people) forget to have the checker scan your registry.

  • About 30-40% of the gifts we received were from our registery. MOST of that was not taken off our registery (they didn't give the registry # at check-out) an a lot of it I believe was bought the day before or day of. We got some multiples... 3 of one item!
We got some really wonderful things we hadn't considered getting and were totally lucky to get some neat hand made goodies. Also, we got an adorable newborn outfit that we will use as our "coming home" outfit.
  • Seriously like 98% of them! Heck yea!! I was totally suprised

  • With DD most of my gifts were from the registry and I was really surprised because I registry stalked a few days before and nothing was purchased.

Also OP, having 3+ different registries is tacky.

If you're confused, refer to her Feb 14 dupe post.

What? It is not tacky. Lots of people register at BRU, BBB + target. One place may not have everything you need.
  • I'd say about 75% of our gifts came from the registry.  The more practical people bought from it, the ones who just love baby things bought whatever they wanted, but it's all appreciated and will get used.  We also got some great handmade things - a sweater, a hat, a receiving blanket, and a quilt.

We registered at Target and the registry information only updated about half the time.  I had to go through and manually delete a bunch of items after we received them, then field questions about why I registered for diaper pail bags when I didn't have a diaper pail on there.

  • I've had 2 showers and I would say 75% of our gifts were from our registries. Don't worry about the fact that many gifts are still on your registry...most people purchase day before or day of.
  • Thank you all! I'm so excited to just celebrate and love hearing others opinions and experiences. Am definitely grateful, but good to know what to expect! :-)
  • We got almost everything on our registry but we also got a TON of (way too many) outfits.

  • I had 2 registries and each had about 30 things bought from them. So just under 60 items.

  • Out of 35 people- I got about 20 items from our registries. Most people got one item from the list and one extra. Only about three or four were completely off the wall. Most gifts were clothes or registry.
  • 4 items at the most, one of which was stroller/car seat combo. Was a little disappointed, won't lie. Grateful for all that people gave, but just not sure how many NB outfits and fuzzy blankets we can actually use!
  • Probably 80%
  • Hardly anything from my first shower was off my registry (I think maybe like 3-4 items). Most people bought us clothes and honestly I think that is bc I'm having a girl (only boys up to this point in our family so I think they were excited for the "cute" girl clothes). I have one more shower with DHs family on the 22nd. My SIL found out we have more than enough clothes so she is trying to hint to people to buy off our registry. We shall see how that goes...

  • I haven't had my shower yet, but I can guarantee 0. I don't even have a registry! :D it's a book sprinkle too, so I hopefully won't get anything else. This kid doesn't need a thing.
  • I'd say about 75% from our registries. We are team green so I think that had a lot to do with it. Must people bought something from the registry and added a small toy/bath product/etc that wasn't from the registry. I did end up returning a ton of j&j bath products, but I didn't mind at all, pretty much every baby store sells them.
  • Almost all of mine did...however we're team green and I think people are more apt to buy things from the registry when you don't know the sex. When they know the sex they love buying clothes or cute gender appropriate items.
  • My shower is this weekend and I looked at my registries last night. There are about 40 items bought. I didn't register for clothes or toys though so I expect to get a lot of those things. It looks like it might be around 50%.

I am hoping for a lot of cute clothes! I also think that gifts not on the registry can be great. A lot of my friends have kids so they might be getting things that they loved that I had no idea about.

absolutely this! I can't believe the low numbers that some people are saying of how few things were bought from the registry... I know it wasn't asked in the original question, but I'd be willing to bet that almost everyone who got less than half of the things from their registry was b/c the guests knew the sex of the baby! (I am SO glad we didn't tell!)

  • Not as many as i was hoping, but i am grateful. I ended up with a lot of sleepers and sleep sacks, and not a whole lot of the other stuff. Nice to have, but i was kinda bummed at the same time because we have To buy a lot still
  • We had about 20 guests at our shower (plus about 5 gifts I've received from non-shower goers) and the majority came from the registry.

My friend's mom got us a couple items plus crochet (sp?) a blanket, and another friend's mom did the same thing.  One friend shopped at an entirely different store, but that was expected as she was pretty much our only gift giver that didn't go from our wedding registry either.  However I think we received way more swaddle blankets than what our registry says, and there are some small items (pacis, A&D ointment, etc) that we got that are now showing as bought from our regsitry.  So either BRU messed up, or maybe the gift giver didn't give the sheet to the casheir so they would come off, or they bought them from another store.

  • a little psa for ladies who have an active registry at target: we received TWO cribs, changing tables, and ergo carriers. I couldn't figure out why, as the gifters were internet and registry savvy, until I logged out of target online and viewed the registry from a guest's pov. it is SUPER confusing....if the item has been bought, it will say Wants: 1 Needs: 0 rather than showing the item as 'purchased' or 'complete'. now I've gotta keep an eye on it and take things off as they show they are purchased until the shower next weekend which is kind of a pain. just fyi! :)

  • I had two showers with DS and most of our gifts were off of our registry. We used gift cards to purchase the rest. I think sometimes it depends on your age too (although sometimes your friends), because when I was younger and didn't have a child I gave cute clothes as baby shower presents. Now that I know what things are necessary and more important to get than a ton of clothes, I use the registry and/or buy practical gifts new parents really will need.
  • It was about 50/50, with non-registry stuff being clothes and cute little things people thought we would like. We only had to return 4 things to Target, which were duplicates, which I think it great considering that some of the registry items we got weren't taken off the registry during check out. So we were actually surprised by the registry items we received. After the shower I took the gift cards and any money we received to purchase things that we still needed off the registry, now I think we're pretty much set until the little one arrives!

Everything with the exception of clothes because we didn't register for any. Only had to make 1 exchange because we decided to change bottles after we made the registry but it was an even exchange.
