OT DIY Spa Ideas

So I volunteer with a teenage youth group, and every year around Valentine's day we have a girl's "Sweet Times" sleep over where we have lots of good girl talk and tons of delicious desserts.  This year the activity portion of the evening is going to be spa themed, and I'm in charge of the specific activities.  I've been scouring Pinterest, and there are 1000's of fun ideas, but I was wondering if you all had any tried and true DIY "spa-type" recipes that you recommend.  I'm thinking we'll do something for facials, something for mani/pedis, and maybe a foot soak or body scrub of some sort?  Plus I'd like a little something for them to take home--at this point I'm thinking some nail polish.  Any suggestions of things you've tried and loved?

Re: OT DIY Spa Ideas

  • Ok I'm a licensed cosmetologist. I have a lot of ideas for spa things. Let me do the dishes and get typing.

  • So, These are teenage or pre teen girls right? I like the idea of doing facials. Most girls do not know how to care for their skin properly or do a proper facial. So that is a good thing to do. So, to make it a spa type thing you'll need a lot of towels (you can get cheap kitchen towels or buy salon towels from Sally's) and a crock pot. Warm facial towels are the bestest. Just roll them up pretty and add water and turn the crock pot on an hour or two before hand. It's great. Then do the whole cleanse, scrub, massage, mask, tone, and moisturize. I use witch hazel for toner as it's cheap. do a warm towel for a few minutes to help wash off the mask as well.

Now, this is a fun idea from beauty school. Do a make your own mask bar. You get different ingredients or recipes for masks and what they are for. So Avocado mask for moisture, yogurt and banana mask, ect. Make your mask and do facials. It's fun and easy. You can probably find a bunch of great masks for moisturizing and acne prone/oily skin online. Make a nice sheet of the recipes and have the ingredients ready.

Mani/pedi's are a cute idea. Doing a spa pedicure is always fun. I prefer OPI line for pedi;s. It have the soak, scrub, massage, mask, and lotion.

Paraffin dips are always fun as well. It requires the paraffin warmer and salon grade paraffin, but you just cannot beat a paraffin foot or hand dip. It's fabulous.

Scalp treatments are fun too. You do a scalp massage and get a deep conditioning treatment. We used to do these for funsies in beauty school. The massage oils smell great and you can use coconut oil for the moisturizing treatment or salon grade cholesterol.

For take home treats doing nail polish and maybe some sugar scrub would be good. You can even get those tiny sample size things of like argon oil or keratin treatments from Sally's to throw in as well.

  • I love Nana's ideas! I just wanted to add that it would probably be handy to have a bunch of soft headbands and hair elastics on hand bc the girls may not think ahead to pack them.

  • Thanks! My SO really enjoys his pedicures. :P. I keep a fairly stocked house. It helps to be able to go to salon stores and get things for cheap. Like OPI polishes for 2.50 a pop.

Jealous! The only thing I collect as much as, if not more than diapers is nail polish. It's obscene how many polishes I have.

My mom is the same way. I use my card for her though. So she has lots of nice polishes. If you know anyone with a license convince them to take you to Cosmo Prof.

You could make sugar scrubs with them or bath fizz. I have seen both made and they looked easy and cheap.
I second Nana's ideas. My salon does princess parties and have done spa parties for young ladies. We showed them how to file their nails and to use base coat and top coat so their nails dry quickly and don't stain.
You can show them how to do skin care but we have had a few girls have reactions to store bought and homemade masks so you may want to skip that unless you find something really gentle. But showing them the steps is a great idea.
