Late Term and Child Loss

TTC/IVF retrieval near EDD

We are getting started on a new IVF protocol with my next CD1 (2/9 or 2/10) and I just looked at the calendar.  If we were doing a protocol like our last one, retrieval would be towards the end of Feb., but with this new protocol, retrieval will be within a few days of Jesse's EDD.  A (not so) small part of me is freaking out about that.

But, another part of me is trying to look at it is a chance to have something good still happen on that day.  Jesse was concieved on June 29th, and it is pretty awesome to know that definitively. If we have retrieval near his EDD and the starts align and we get pregnant again, it would be amazing to turn a day that is tinged with sadness into a day that has a spot of hope.

I would love to hear any experiences from those of you TTC, PGAL or PAL. I am in a really good place right now, and not dreading Jesse's EDD like I thought I would be, but I still have some complicated feelings surrounding it.

Lots of love to everyone <3

I don't have any experience with IVF so I don't know if my story relates at all...but I was pregnant and had a "good" US on Bunny's  EDD and it made the day super sweet.  I felt like I was celebrating and honoring her as well as being hopeful for the future...I did end up losing that pregnancy but in a way I feel like it helped me to get through a really difficult day with some hope.  (a hope that I still have).  That may not relate to your retrieval at all...but just wanted to give you my experience.

We were not expecting by the time we came to Elsie's EDD, but then we were only a month away when we lost her. However, we did go through the decision afterward as to whether to continue TTC when we were around her BFP and if we would want this baby to possibly be born the same month as she was, or the same month she was going to arrive. Ultimately, we decided the second baby would be happy news, and would make any day a bit sweeter.

Not totally related, but just our way to work through the anniversary dates and working toward our rainbow baby.

This is kind of similar, but we got our positive test this time around on what would have been our first baby's 5 month birthday.  I know exactly what you mean about turning a bad day into a hopeful day! Plus this way, we see our new baby as a gift from our son :)

  • I like everyone's answers. I'm not dojng IVF but we did try through when we got pregnant with Ana the previous year, and if I'm not pregnant this cycle will try through her birthday. Oddly enough, if I get pregnant this cycle our EDD would be our anniversary, which is cool. I tend to be on the side of a gift/good luck charm for dates to line up like that. I'm sure if things didn't go well it would be hard...but imagine if it did!

  • ***Siggy***

My EDD was April 9 and I went for my IVF transfer a month later. I had an extremely hard time on my EDD and would have loved to move up my transfer so I could be excited/hopeful about something. So I think it's a great idea. I ended up getting pregnant again from my May 2012 IVF cycle and I enjoyed being pregnant around the same time of the year as I was previously. It made things a little easier because in 2011 I was super big at Thanksgiving, and was again in 2012. I went pumpkin picking and took pics of my belly in 2011 & 2012, had another belly pic in front of the tree, etc. It helped me get through the miserable first year and all of the tough milestones.

Good luck to you during your next IVF cycle. It sucks so much to have to go through it all again but it's worth it and there is a beautiful rainbow awaiting you.

  • I've been back to the RE for another shot at IUI knowing the EDD could be the same time we lost Raynor. Unfortunately, this round got canceled. If I get pregnant in March, the EDD will probably close to Raynor's original EDD. I'm ok with that, I think that it will be easier for my next child to relate to his big brother if they have some dates in common.

Good luck to you, sending lots of positive thoughts. Jesse is looking down and smiling knowing his mommy is working on getting him a brother or sister :)

  • Because dates tend to stick in my head, I am always willing to have something good fall on one of those "bad" dates. On 1/9/13 we learned our ID twins hearts had stopped beating. On 1/9/14 we learned at our A/S that we were having 2 healthy boys. January 9 is now bittersweet and not just bitter anymore. Best of luck to you this next cycle!

  • Siggy warning/ pg mentioned

Not quite the same situation, but similar to pp.
We specifically waited to do an iui a month so that my edd wouldn't be the same with this pg. I really struggled through the edd when it came around after Elliott and Ryland were born and I didn't want to potentially have the same due date with this pg. I'm due a month and 10 days from my last pg. As I'm pregnant with twins there's a very good chance I could deliver on 4/2 which was my edd and I almost find myself hoping to deliver then so that these babies could share that with their brothers. Good luck with your cycle!
