Acid Reflux/Dyspepsia

Is anyone else having issues with this? Originally I thought I was still having m/s, but it's definitely acid reflux/dyspepsia. I started taking Zantac 150 twice a day, but it only seems to help during the day and not at all at night. I can't seem to eat anything without it making me feel awful. I'm already sleeping in an elevated position, avoiding all spicy and fried foods and anything tomato based and obviously I'm taking Zantac. Milk makes it worse and so does ice cream.I think I am going to try going to the chiropractor to see if that will help. I know that it helped my goddaughter when she was a baby, so maybe it will help me.

Does anyone have experience with this and how to make it better?

TIA!

Re: Acid Reflux/Dyspepsia

  • I had it bad with DS and I'm already on Zantac 150. It happened with me even when I didn't eat. I've tried everything you have as well. I wish I had a better solution. I'd be happy to hear what other moms are doing/have done as well :)

  • Zantac is crap. Prilosec or Prevacid 4 lyfe.

  • Try a magnesium supplement. Of course ask your doctor first but it was a huge help with my last pregnancy and also helped with restless legs later on.

  • Sorry, will someone explain to me how a chiropractor will help with acid reflux? I'm not trying to be mean. I've just never been to a chiro, so I don't know exactly what they specialize in.
  • THIS! Is happening to me right now :( Sunday night I had some buffalo wings and ever since then I've had acid reflux! Then today I had a black bean burger and all of a sudden it felt outrageously spicy! I LOVE SPICY food but all of a sudden it doesn't love me! I am so bummed - guess I will be avoiding it for a while

  • I haven't had acid reflux from pregnancy yet (YET being the operative word, I know it's coming!!).  But, I have gotten bouts of it in the past.  My go to solution is pickles!  I would eat a pickle, drink the juice, whatever.  The vinegar is a base and really helps me.

  • I got a prescription from my OB. I still throw up a lot after I eat solid food, but I think at least 50% of it is stating down now.

They can adjust the area around your smooth muscles and make it easier for food to digest. I have heard from several people that it works better than almost anything else.

My dr prescribed 20mg of pepcid that I should take 2xs a day to prevent it from starting.
First Baby and a complete surprise.
Hubby has decided to be team green so we are driving friends and family crazy!
  • I had my first experience with heartburn last night from 1:00am- 5:30am. Needless to say, it felt like the wrath of hell had been unleashed in my rib age and stomach. I felt like acid and fire were fighting gladiator style in my chest! It was AWFUL!!!! But, after much desperate research in the dark of the night, I read that almonds cure heartburn. Luckily I had some in my kitchen and ate a handful... It seemed to help more than tums or milk and I was eventually able to go back to sleep. The only bummer is, though, that it came back all day today... Hopefully not another repeat is in my future!!!
  • I'm at 17 weeks and it hit me every day from about 16.5 weeks. Never had it in my life! Pharmacist gave me a liquid called Gaviscon and some chewable tablets called Rennie. Apparently it's very normal. Just uncomfortable!!

  • I've had it since I was 7/8 weeks maybe from having hyperemesis? Anyway I was prescribed 800mg of Tagamet 2x a day. It helps immensely!! It works all day long and I can actually sleep through the night (minus getting up every two hours to pee) There is a huge difference. I would ask your doctor.

If you don't want to call your doctor and talk about a prescription, Prevacid works also.
