October 2013 Moms

Good kid!!

I just wanted to brag on my 9 year old nephew. He is in the 3rd grade and their basketball season in in February and March (not a full season since they are young). The first game is tomorrow and for the past two weeks his mom (my sister) has been trying to pick out a pair of new basketball shoes for him, but he keeps saying he doesn’t want new shoes. On Monday evening they were at my house and we began questioning him about why he didn’t want new shoes and basically told him that we were ordering them. He got super upset and actually started crying. We both thought it was the most bizarre damn thing that he was so against getting new shoes… Fast forward to later that night, my sister calls and says he told her on the way home that there is a boy in his class that can’t afford new shoes for basketball and all the kids make fun of him about his shoes. My nephew said even the coach said something to the little boy about his shoes being “ugly.” So, my nephew didn’t want to get new shoes so that his classmate wouldn’t be the only one with old shoes. Of course we felt like shit for pushing the issue, but what a good kid! So, my nephew will be wearing old shoes this basketball season (my sister would like to buy the classmate new shoes, but money is tight for them and that might be even more embarrassing for the kid/family). <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

We spent the rest of that conversation plotting revenge on the asshole coach that called his shoes ugly!
