Does bump growth go through spurts?

I'm 20 weeks and really big compared to pictures I see of others at 20 weeks. I know I shouldn't compare, but I can't help it! Will the growth slow down at times or just continue at this rate? Also, is this an indication that I am going to have a huge baby? I'll ask my doctor too, but just wanted to hear others' experiences. Also, I am very tall and have a very long torso.

  • I feel like mine literally grows a ton overnight and then doesn't grow again until the next growth spurt which seems like it is overnight again!

  • I don't have a bump. I have a hump. My lil girl is up and down so she is not making a nice bump for my belly but a hump on my whole abdominal area. So when she does move and makes a bump I get all excited until she stretches out again and I just look over weight again.
  • I feel the same way as kinipela - I wake up some mornings thinking I grew over night and then it stays the same for a while! So strange.

  • I was just thinking this. I feel like my bump grew so much this week my whole body is aching and feeling stretched. It definitely seems to change overnight and then nothing for a few weeks.

  • The past few days I feel like I'm painfully expanding.   But there was a quiet stretch before that and I had looked about the same for several weeks.  Weird.

  • I definitely feel spurts.  Like for several days/week(s) everything feels normal-ish, then one day my stomach feels uncomfortably full/stretched like right after you ate a huge meal...and then it'll go away and I notice my bump a little more.

  • They definitely go through growth spurts in the womb.  There are lots of factors that go into how you carry - so don't think "big bump" = "big baby" :)

I am definitely bigger at 23 weeks than I was in my first pregnancy mostly because my abs weren't as tight so it just doesn't get held in the same way.

Mine is also much bigger at the end of the day than at the beginning. I think it's normal.
    Mine too.
  • My bump has been about the same size for the last few weeks. But then again I look at it everyday so I'm not much help

  • They do go through spurts, as well as it can look different day to day depending on which way baby is facing. Today I know DD's back is towards my front because movements aren't as strong and I look ginormous. :)

This! I feel huge this time around! At least 4 weeks bigger than this # of weeks in my first pregnancy.

  • Baby does go through growth spurts. I think around 18w then around 24w, then at 32 and then at 36. I also think it varies woman to woman and baby to baby, but those weeks were the growth spurt weeks for me in the past.  Also how constipated you are and how bloated you are can factor in as well. Also you may perceive yourself to be bigger then you actually are. Also baby's position has a lot to do with how you carry.  My belly was pretty flat with DS2 and DS3 and it was because they were in crappy positions (sunny side up).  Try not to compare (I know it is so hard) but you are growing at the perfect rate for you. And lastly, your size doesn't neccesarily indicate the size of your baby.

  • I definitely think it goes in spurts!  In looking at pictures of other ladies bellies around 16-18 weeks, I looked WAY bigger.  But I think my growth spurt slowed down b/c in the last 4 weeks or so I seem to have barely grown, so that my belly looks more like other people's pictures.
