Multiples

What helped you prep for multiples? Book, website, class suggestions?

Hi veteran MoMs...and by veteran I mean anyone that knows anything about what's to come bc I am seriously (perhaps blissfully?) ignorant. What books did you buy that's helped you? Websites? Did you take any classes to get you ready? I started looking at books on amazon but before I commit, I would love to hear what worked for you. TIA!!

Re: What helped you prep for multiples? Book, website, class suggestions?

  • The book "What to Expect when you're expecting twins, triplets..." it had tons of information in one place about the science of twins. It also helped me understand how important it is to listen to your body because it is so different from a singletons pregnancy. I didnt do the diet part of the book though, I just couldn't gain the weight or stomach that food.

This multiple board is SUPER helpful as well. It is nice to get real experience from "real" moms.

The internet has some conflicting information depending on thewebsite so I try to avoid it and just ask these ladies questions.

Oh and don't get the bump book on multiples. It's pretty but not that informative.

    Good luck!!!!

  • Here.  This board was the best resource I had for my twins.  Most of the books I read were either preachy (ex: if you don't do XYZ you're babies will be premature or sickly), had an agenda (ex: c-sections are evil, never ever have one), or unrealistically optimistic.  When I came on here, I got real advice from real MoMs who were either BTDT or at the same place I was at.

  • You can read every multiples book that Amazon has to offer and you still will never be fully prepared for twins. ;) But to give you a helpful answer.... I probably got the most and the best information on this board.

  • Agree with @legallyblonde217! There is so much on the job training! But that shouldn't stop you from being informed! This board was very helpful as well as the book Mothering Multiples. I also stalked every blogger I found that had twins, because I liked reading personal stories as well.

    All of this.

  • this board has been great (our twins aren't here yet, but I've learned a ton!).  The "What to expect when you're expecting twins/multiples..." book was very informative as well.  I also really like the website "dadsguidetotwins" - gives all sorts of practical advice, and has great podcasts on all sorts of topics that I hadn't even thought to think about!  I bought DH the "Dad's guide to twins" book for Christmas, and he really liked it -- it had a lot of great practical advice, but didn't get as bogged down in the medical side, which is what makes his eyes glaze over...

I'm also reading "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Twins" - not sure if it will help, but it definitely can't hurt to have more advice on how to get both of them to sleep through the night!

    This^^.

As for books, see if you can connect with your local MoM's club.  Mine has a library of books to borrow, and about a zillion copies of the What to Expect when your expecting, twins, trips, etc...  They also have meetings and gatherings so it's a great place to connect IRL with people who have BTDT.

Also, what prepared me the most really, was having an older son.  I knew what I needed and what to expect, so that helped my comfort level with taking care of two newborns, although, having two at the same time is a whole other experience.

TTC since May 2006. After 3 failed Clomid cycles, 2 failed Injectibles/IUIs, 2 failed IVFs and 1 failed FET, we moved on to adoption!

Last ditch FET resulted in BFP, and identical twin girls!

  • This board was a great resource. I also had a relative with twins who was very supportive and open to questions. The books I found helpful were:

What to Expect When You're Expecting Twins, Trips...

    Raising Emotionally Healthy Twins
