calling STM!

How soon after the delivery will you be letting your little one see the baby?
I'm thinking after the first feeding session and after everything is cleaned up. I only want it to be me and DH and DD after hes here so she won't have all the other people around
what are yalls plans?

Re: calling STM!

  • Loading the player...
  • I'm going to play it by ear but probably as soon as possible.  It will all depend on the timing of everything but was thinking it might be good for her to see the baby twice in the hospital to help it sink in but that might not make sense.
  • Depends on time of day. The ILs will be watching her, so when we want her, we probably get them too (although I will insist DH bring dd in ahead of them for a little bit), so probably not until we're settled and cleaned up.

    TTC#2: 2.13 - BFP#3: 7.25.13=Kelsey born 3.31.14
  • As soon as we can! If the baby's born during the day, DD will be there since it will be a home birth, so she'll meet the baby as soon as we do! If the baby's born during the night, she will meet him or her as soon as she wakes up :)

  • Depends on what time of day I deliver. If it's fairly early in the day, the ILs (who will have DD with them at home while DH and I are in L&D) will likely visit once DH texts an all clear to them. If it's night again, it'll be the next day.

    This for us too.
  • I gave birth to DS after DD was in bed, so we waited until the next morning. I would be fine with her coming in after I nurse baby and we're both cleaned up.

  • Probably later that afternoon. My RCS is scheduled for 8 am. It will also depend on the weather. If not then I will have MIL bring her up the next morning.

  • As soon as I'm cleaned up. I can't wait to see him with his sibling.
    First we had you.

    Then we had you.

    Now we are complete.

  • As soon as we're settled in the post-partum room, if possible. My hospital will move me from L&D within 2 hrs after delivery. We won't interfere with nap time or bedtime, so we'll have my MIL bring DS to the hospital at the soonest time that he's not sleeping.

  • My 14 yo dd and 11yo ds are planning to attend the birth.  My 8 yo ds is hoping that the ob will forget he is there so he can stay as well.  If complications arise we will still have them in asap.  Our hospital does kangaroo care for the first hour so they won't be able to hold her but they can touch and see her.
  • it will be HIGH on my priority list...  i can't wait to show kiddo his sister, and will not want to delay that event any longer than is absolutely necessary once i'm cleaned up, relaxed and (possibly) rested.
  • For me it really depends on DS 14. I would love for him to see her immediately but he may not want to come to hospital so I won't force him. As for my younger step children it may be the next day unless my MIL brings them that may be unlikely though. I'm having RCS so I'm anticipating a 3day stay.
  • Ideally as soon as possible once I'm cleaned up and rested (depending on the time of day I deliver). It will likely be my MIL (and possibly FIL if he comes along with her; they are both retired now so their schedules are fairly open) who will be watching her, so as long as there are no complications I'd like to see DD as soon as I feel somewhat recovered and I'm sure MIL will want to see the new baby anyway.

  • I wait a few hours. I need time to adjust and just be w DH and baby. Usually it's later in the evening, after dinner time (all mine were born during the day so far).
  • Depends on so many factors - the time of day I deliver, whether my VBAC is successful, if she's in school that day, etc. She's been to visit both grandparents and DH in the hospital and tends to get anxious/scared if the patient looks sick, so I want to make sure I am not a zombie when she comes so it's a positive experience for her!

After the c-section, I can have visitors an hour later. It just depends on the time of day she's born, but they are all so excited!

  • Here in Botswana there is a 'no visitor under 12' rule in the hospital so she will have to wait until we get home, but last time I was only in the hospital (cs) 36 hours from delivery to discharge.  However, I've never left her over night!

  • I'm having a home birth (if all goes well) so the plan is to have DS home with my Mom watching him so he'll either be there for the birth or shortly after

  • If the twins are preterm and in NICU like my two boys were then they wont see them until they come home. But if all is well and we can keep them in there long enough to avoid NICU, then asap :)

  • If it's during the day dh will go pick up ds once we are settled in a room after delivery. If it's at night dh will bring him first thing in the morning.

That's unles there are any unexpected problems

  • I keep going back and forth on this.  I want him to meet his sibling as soon as possible, but he's so little and doesn't really understand what is going on, so I might wait until we come home.  I do know if he comes to the hospital that I want to be up and dressed and not in bed with an IV or anything, I don't want to upset him by making him think the baby is why I'm "hurt".  My parents will have him when I'm delivering though so they will bring him whenever I ask.

  • We'll make a judgement call when it comes to it.  I'm not supposed to be admitted overnight if my vbac works anyways.

Only my mom was in town last time.  I will wait at least an hour or two this time as well.  Depends how it is going.  My mom will be watching my son so she won't be at the hospital.  Definitely no one is allowed to wait at the hospital or make me feel pressured for time or anything like that.

  • The birth center will release me 4 hours after the baby is born as long as everything is normal. So We will bring the baby home to meet DS then.

When my 3rd was born, my other two kids were 5 and 3. It really freaked them out when they saw the IV's and other machines and wouldn't come near me until the next day when those were all removed. This time around I'll have an 11, 9 and 6 year old and we have told them what to expect.

  • I would really like DD to watch the birth but she'll only be 22-23months old. But DD loves water and I want to keep her out of the birth tub. My friend Brit will be watching her until my mom can get here, a 4 hr drive from the coast. I guess my mom will bring her back to the house as soon as it's all over. If the HBAC fails DD will have to wait to met her til we get home. April will still be considered flu season here and that means she can't visit the hospital.
