Avery Center (Westport & Darien Offices)

Hi Ladies,

I just wanted to share my experience about this office.  

I went to the office for some blood work and when I came back about a month later I asked if the results were OK.  The doctor said they were fine.  About a week later I have a voicemail on my office phone indicating that I have to do additional testing because it looks like I may be a carrier for cystic fibrosis.  I really didn't know what cystic fibrosis was so was terrified when I couldn't reach my doctor after leaving numerous voicemails that day and doing some research online.  When I called back the third time the office said they had no record that I left a VM.  Finally, the doctor calls me back at the end of the day and although relieved I couldn't believe she said that she was distracted when she left the VM bc someone was talking to her and I actually don't have cystic fibrosis!  I am relieved but told her that she knows I have anxiety and asked that they never leave a VM about the specifics of a test results.  Just have me call back to discuss.  There have been some other issues with this office so decided to go to a different OB-GYN.    Now,  I am dealing with Avery Center billing since they are billing my insurance company incorrectly.  It took them a week to get back to me about a bill.  Avery couldn't reissue the bill with the correct code.  I was so frustrated I asked my insurance company to contact them to resolve.  Thankfully, they did.    I just don't think Avery Center is very professional.  If you leave a message with the doctor's office don't expect to hear back that day unless you continue to call. 

This is my first pregnancy and the doctor's office knew that I have anxiety and off my anxiety pills.  Even if I wasn't an anxious person, they shouldn't leave a message detailing results of a test as it should be kept confidential and only discussed with the patient or someone authorized.

 Thanks for listening to me vent about this office.

    Hi there -

    I use this office. I do have some frustrations with the front desk staff. Once I went in there and they loudly asked what I was there for and it was a private procedure which I was appalled they expected me to say out loud in a crowded waiting room.

    Aside from the front desk team, I am very satisfied with the doctors and nurses. There an option to contact a nurse during their office hours which is a very nice anytime you have a question - today I called to ask about taking a bath - and you get an answer or they check with the doctor.   

     I'm sorry your experience was so poor.

    Oh, I am sorry you have had such a poor experience. I love the Avery Center, especially my doctor. Hope things get better for you there!

    I love my doctor at the Avery Center - BUT, they front desk has scheduled me twice incorrectly.  First, they asked me to come in at 5 weeks for an ultrasound.  When I saw the dorctor, he was puzzled as "what are you doing here, it's too early!".  He apologized of course.  Then, I was scheduled for another appointment and again, they booked me too early.  I had to be at least 9 weeks for the book work and they asked me to come back 4 days later.  Again, I have been a patient for many many years but this is my first pregnancy.  I love the routine care but I have been less than impressed with the pre-natal care.  Now that I have moved to Danbury, I am actually thinking of looking for a new local doctor.

    Based on mommy recommendations, I went to the Avery center and absolutely hated it.  They were all so cold and impersonal.  We listened to the heartbeat for about 1.5 seconds before the doc turned it off, said, yup, sounds fine, and walked out.  My husband and I barely realized what we were listening to before it was already too late.  No congratualations, no softness or smiles or anything.  Just to the point, impersonal and harsh. 

    Looking for a midwife now :)
