Babies: 9 - 12 Months

**nosoup4u**

I asked in the other thread, but I'm curious why you found the book depressing?

I found it empowering in a way - like it confirmed that I am enough for my kid.

DH and I are kind of anti-consumer to begin with, though.  The book really just re-enforced opinions I already held.

  • butting in also....

I just read an excerpt, it seems like it is a good read. I think especially since with thebump it seems as if everyone has the latest gadgets etc it suckers you into doing the same.

I think you are right its empowering.  DS gets blocks and teethers but we're really not interested in lights/sounds etc.  Sometimes I think we forget we turned out just fine.

It is a good read - though I have found certain parts of it a little been condescending.  I almost put it down in the first chapter, but then it got better.

  • hey, I just found this now - DH was getting home just as you were posting your original thread...

I found it depressing in that so many people are (literally) buying in the need to get so much stuff for their kids - like you said, I think my DH and I are enough for our son, and that we don't need to pay someone to make him smarter, etc. So not depressing in that it was a bad book or I didn't agree with her premise, but that I did agree with it. Sigh.
