Transitioning to the crib

Just curious as to when others were going to transition from the bassinet to the crib. I'm thinking of trying naps in the crib now that Jack is 8 weeks and then at 12 weeks trying to make a full transition. Thoughts?

Re: Transitioning to the crib

  • DH and I were just talking about this yesterday. We just transitioned LO to her PNP across the room from our bed from the RNP right next to me. I'm not sure when we will transition her to her crib in her own room, she's 7 weeks today. I told DH that she is probably ready and would do well in there now, I'm just not ready!

  • We transitioned our DD to her crib at 7 weeks and she has been sleeping in there full time since 8 weeks. It's just easier since I was returning to work. It was easier then I thought it would be. She naps in her PNP in our living room during the day. She sleeps for longer stretches at night now!
  • Our goal is to transition her before I go back to work in 3 weeks when she's 8 weeks old. I think it's going to be difficult and I'm not sure where to start. She currently will only sleep on me during the day and in the RNP in our room at night. She can be sound asleep but within 5 minutes of putting her in her crib, she is wide awake and crying. Every time. I don't think she likes open, flat surfaces.

  • We just completed night number 2 in the crib and she has slept from 1030-630 both nights! She is 7weeks. After the morning feeding I bring her back to the bassinet just because she doesn't sleep very long or well after that. I had a little melt down the first night, it was tough but SO was great and gave me some encouragement.

Also I had tried naps a couple weeks ago but she wouldn't sleep more that 15 minutes at a time, she loves looking around in her room
  • We've actually started this process in the last 24hrs. Archer outgrew the newborn napper on his PNP so I was trying to get him to sleep in the PNP itself with very little success. Today I got the idea to try his actual crib for a nap and it worked! So I think we're going to be trying his crib for sleep tonight. I was not mentally prepared lol. At least it's just the room next door.

  • I just started giving her part of her naps in her crib and then the first half of the night she sleeps in her crib and the rest of the time on me. Do what works for you! I do not want her in our bed long term, I really don't even want to share a bed with dh(I like my space!), so for me I want to try and get her in the crib ASAP. I would have tried earlier on, but it was not happening. I would like her in the crib for all naps and at night before 3 months, but she might have other plans.

  • It's nice to know other working moms will be transitioning before 12 weeks. We might try before then but like many of you stated I don't know if I'm ready...

  • We kept waking her up so we moved her to the crib at 8 weeks. It was the first time she slept through the night. She sleeps all night every night now at 11 weeks. We haven't looked back!
  • Leila's been in the crib since 6 weeks and she sleeps great in it. She slept awful in the cradle in our room.
  • My son takes at least one nap everyday in his crib and is fine in there.  The only reason I haven't moved him yet is because it's much easier for me to shove a paci in his mouth when he's right next to me as opposed to having to get out of bed a few extra times a night.

  • We want to transition LO into her PNP from a bassinet (all in our room) in the next few weeks. Then we'll move her into the crib in her room in the weeks after. We'd like to have her completely transitioned by 4 months. DD will be 10 weeks tomorrow.

  • Amelia naps (not necessarily well) in her crib, and we plan on moving her this weekend, or maybe next, at night. We're downstairs and her room is upstairs, so that makes it more complicated. I think we'll probably move to the guest room upstairs for at least a couple of weeks (and until she stops waking at night consistently, if I get my way).

  • We transitioned when he was 4 weeks old. He slept just as well in the crib as his cradle and we haven't looked back! I really like having him in his own room.

  • Evelyn takes naps and sleeps nights in her crib since 8 weeks.

  • She has been napping in the crib for the past couple weeks, but still sleeps in our room in the PnP and sometimes the RnP at night. We are going to start transitioning her when DH is off from work for winter break in 2 weeks. She will be turning 9 weeks at the end of that week. For some reason I get sad thinking about her moving to her room even though we moved DD1 at 8 weeks.

  • We transitioned Cody last Sunday to his crb. Cody is now 9 weeks. I wanted to transition him before I went back to work last week but it made me too sad. I realized that he was waking himself up in the bassinet by rocking it. Since he has moved he has been sleeping 9 hour a night since he was moved. He usually naps in the bouncy chair or in someone's arms. He sleeps much better now.
  • We moved him into the crib but in his Moses basket still at week 5. He's now 10wks and getting too big for the basket so I'm giving him a nap a day in the crib itself but he seems ok with it already
  • When it warms up. His room is cold! Propane is too expensive this year to crank the heat.

  • Success! We tried it last night and Archer slept the longest stretch he ever has (5 hours straight). It was hard to take that step but I think I'm going to like having our room back, and we made such a nice cozy nursery, I kind of like feeding him in there now snuggled in the glider.

  • She's still in the RnP at nearly 8 weeks. We'll be moving her to a mini crib as soon as I get motivated but she'll still be in our room until 6-7 months partially because we like it that way (did the same with DS) and part because we're in a 2br home until that time and don't want DS to have to share his room.

  • LO is 11 weeks and is still in my bed. But reading your responses have given me hope to try it out. She hates her bassinet and sleeps 4 to 5+ hours in my bed.
  • Well last night was the first night, Jack slept for 2.5 hours and woke up screaming like I have never heard! Poor guy took a half hour to calm down. I nursed him and he ended up back in his RNP but slept terrible. Today I tried a morning nap in his crib and I spent 45 minutes leaning over his crib working on the no tears method. He didn't cry at all unless I walked away and he realized I wasn't there. Do others experience this too? I know I need to keep working on it or he's just going to get confused if I switch back.

  • I don't have a set plan but I am thinking when he starts sleeping in longer stretches. Now he wakes up every 2-3 hours to eat still. Benny is 10.5 weeks.
