I ordered a carseat for my IL's car. I told FIL yesterday to expect a box from amazon, when it comes we will come and install it for them. He told me they have several old seats down in the barn from when SS (who is 12!) was a baby. I tried to explain to him about expiration dates, and plastic degrading, but I'm not sure he got it. I don't know what I would have done had I seen DD sitting in a seat that was 12 years old!

When DS was born MIL told me they got a seat from a friend who's toddler had just outgrown it. She insisted it was still good until 2015.
When DH and I finally got to look at it, it had expired before DS was even born.
She didn't understand why we wouldn't let her use it.
Then, she wanted to give it to someone else to use.
