Fetal Non Stress Test

I'm 32weeks with di/di twins and I'm a FTM. Went for my first NST yesterday and was told everything was fine. Babies were moving a lot so their heart rates were up & down, which they said is what they want to see.
Apparently I had a couple of contractions also. I know they say it's normal to have them, but I don't feel them, at least I don't think I'm feeling them. I don't know if that means I'm just oblivious to it or what. I'm just nervous that I'm not noticing them. Anyone else have similar experience?
I think I'm just starting to get nervous knowing that I'm getting closer.

Re: Fetal Non Stress Test

  • I start the non stress tests on my next visit. I can't ever feel contractions but apparently I have them too. It is scary.

  • I never had to have these with my singleton. What do they entail?
  • I didn't feel any contractions until I was at a 5 in labor. Just fyi.
  • I didn't feel my contractions until I went into labor. I was admitted to the hospital for 5 days bc on frequent contractions picked up on a NST at 27 weeks. I had my boys at 33 weeks. My ob reassured me that most pregnant women have contractions throughout 3rd tri. And many don't feel them.

  • I'm not sure if this will help or not, but often the only way I could tell I was having a contraction was to keep my hand on my stomach to feel the muscles tighten.

  • Thanks ladies. Like I said I guess I'm just getting nervous because I'm getting close and I've never had any experience before since I'm a FTM.
I was told it's very normal in the third tri and that I will know when I'm having real contractions.

@jessaprimate They basically hooked me up to a monitor and I had three sensors on my stomach. One for each baby which kept track of their heart rate and another to keep track of contractions. I just laid there for about a half hour and that was that.

They put two heart monitors on your belly and a monitor to track contractions. They also give you a button to click every time you feel movement. They look for a certain number of heart accelerations and decelerations in a certain amount of time. It's just a way to check that everything is going OK. They are painless, but in my case they were kind of annoying b/c I needed them every 3 days for the last few weeks of my pregnancy (that is not always the case). Also mine would take forever b/c Baby B (my hyper little Noah) would always squirm away from the monitors so they'd have to readjust them and start all over again. :-P

  • I'm 29 weeks with my di/di twins and am currently in the hospital and have a NST everyday. Somedays I have contractions from the test and I never feel them. A few times they have given me fluids and that seems to are them go away. The doctors told me not to worry about them and just make sure I am drinking plenty of water. I'm also a FTM and was kinda nervous at first but if they were serious contractions then I'm sure the doctors would be more concerned :) sending positive vibes your way!

I had them twice weekly with DD from 34 weeks till she arrived. Sometimes I had contractions, sometimes not, sometimes she didn't move enough. If there was ever any concern they sent me over to L&D triage for further monitoring. I ended up carrying her 40w exactly.

  • I had lots of regular contractions but didn't realize until the NST. I could feel them if I had my hand on my belly so I would sit like that for hours

  • I had contractions that I didn't feel from 24 weeks on according to NSTs. I carried to 38w and had to be induced

This was me! I went in for my c-sec and was at a 5 and in full labor! I just felt kinda flu-like.
But, this was my third pregnancy. I know they would have gotten hard and serious and painful probably pretty quickly.
Just trust in yourself. If you don't feel right, give a call to your ob or L and D. Good luck!
  • I have daily contractions. Some I feel the tightening, but no pain... Some I had no idea about. If it wasn't for the monitor, I'd have no clue. With my last delivery, I was almost 5 cm before I knew I was in labor. I felt nothing aside from random aches which I actually thought was movement.
