DH has been really excited for the new boarding events this year. I just saw that Shawn White dropped out of Slopestyle because the course was too dangerous. A few people have been injured on training runs already. Do you think the Russians are trying to make it too difficult? Do you think he made the right decision to drop out and focus on the half pipe instead?

I think that athletes should make smart decisions to protect themselves. While it's great to push yourself to perform, you also have to be realistic enough to know your limitations and what is safe long term. This is usually my football safety speech but I think it applies here too.

I think it was probably a hard decision to make for him but I respect him for doing it. It seems to me that the Russians are really pushing the boundaries of safety in a few ways for this Olympics.

I was talking to DH this weekend as we watched Shawn White totally faceplant that I wondered how much training time he puts in now vs 8 years ago. He has a huge brand that I am sure he puts a lot of time towards and he is setting up for his future beyond being the top athlete. I think he made the right choice to focus on the half pipe.

I tend to agree with all of you. I am disappointed to not see him compete in this event. I think he could bring a lot, but I also think he has a lot more to worry about than a first time event.

@cheeseandrice, I look forward to the shitshow, but do feel bad for the athletes.

Ha, NBC just aired a commercial promoting Shawn White in slope style. Guess they need to pull that ad.
