Mother of the year (on Opposite Day)

I've been on mat leave since Friday and DH wanted me to keep DD home from preschool to help her avoid getting sick. I said no way, I needed a couple days to get stuff done, rest after a few really stressful weeks at work and get ready for this kid to come.

I only took her for half days but you guessed it. She is sick! Ugh, poor baby is congested, sneezing and coughing and was up all night. I feel awful that she's sick and I am really hoping I don't go into labor until she's better or she won't be able to see baby at the hospital.

I am the worst! :(
I hope to create a real siggy but first I need some sleep!

  • No I don't think you're the worst! I can for sure understand why you sent her to daycare.  With our babies on the way, its nice just to have the time to get things done that sometimes we wouldn't normally be able to. I can also understand why you would want her to feel better before you have/bring baby home. ((Hugs))

  • Call it mommy radar, but I just KNOW one of my kids is going to get sick between now and Monday.  They are both acting "off" this week.  DS was particularly whiney and had a couple of crying fits yesterday which is so unlike him.  I swear it's going to hit on Sunday night with my c/s on Monday.  I just know it.  But neither of them is showing any symptoms clear enough to bother going in yet so it's just a waiting game.  But I'm also sending them on to school/daycare.  In fact, I'm even sending DS to after school today even though I'm at home.  I think I'm going to get a pedi or maybe a massage...  I'll take that MOTY award next!

I was in the same situation. My last day was Friday and I have a rcs tomorrow. I planned to send her to daycare on Monday and Tuesday but all the kids had stomach bugs so I kept her home. She didn't get sick since she was home but OMG dealing with her on my two "rest days" was so hard. She is definitely acting out because she knows change is coming. Thank God DH has a snow day today so he can help out. There really is no right decision in these situations. It is difficult either way.

  • DS1 got sick the day before my induction! I was up most of the night rubbing his ears and giving him medicine. Exhausting way to start DS3's labor!

I definitely sent him to school though. My rule is to send them unless they have a fever. If I kept them home for every cold they'd be home all winter! But stomach bugs are another story.

  • You did nothing wrong my DD1 got strep two days after I got home from Hosp
  • This could be a bug she picked up last week or over the weekend... Or from you or dh or someone else. Keeping her home might not have kept her healthy! Routine is so important. You did the right thing and aren't a bad mom. I'm sorry she's sick.

  • Thanks for the reassurance ladies. I still feel bad she's so miserable.

  • I would have done exactly the same thing. We're big on routine around here and I try to stick to it whenever possible. And she could have gotten sick anywhere. Hopefully it passes quickly and she's back to herself quickly. Kids are resiliant! Hugs!
