First fever

B has her first fever ever. She hasn't had any with her teething so far, didnt have one with the pertussis either. Up to 102 with Tylenol. She won't eat, and normally she's always eating. Only got her to drink fluids from a bottle. She's sooo cranky. I'm guessing it's teeth. I know she's got a molar cutting through in the back. I guess I should call the docs in the morning if she's still up there?

This freaking sucks.

Re: First fever

  • When Emma had a real fever for the first and only time she wouldnt eat and was latched on to me. Turned out to be an ear infection with no other symptoms. I would definitely call the pedi in the morning if your still concerned.

  • When my son had his first fever last month I called the doc and was told give it 48 hours. They wanted to see what symptoms presented. Since I'm a worry wart i took him in the same day. Ended up diagnosed 3 days later with roseola once the rash showed up. I hope she feels better soon!
  • Thanks @OCTOberMOM18. They've got a direct line to speak to a doctor open from 8-9am this morning. I'll have to call then to see what they want me to do.

On another note, DH picked up an infrared thermometer for her. She screamed every time i touched her with the under the arm one we have now. We checked it against our oral thermometer and its pretty damn accurate. Oh technology!!

  • I gave Alice 24 full hours with a fever before I called doc. Turned out to be a bladder infection. But you know your baby. If your instinct says call doc, call doc!

i keep trying to tell myself its probably just her teeth. its the fact that shes never had a fever before this that makes me nervous.

As soon as I told the docs office that it was his first fever they fit me in the same day.  I think everyone understands the first fever is scary.  Hopefully it passes quickly for you both.
  • They told me to come in at 1:30. They said they'd rather be safe than sorry, especially since she doesnt have a history of running fevers. If it is something that needs to be treated, they'd prefer to do it ASAP so she isn't suffering. They've got the opening, so they might as well fit it. Even if it really is just to ease my worries, its not like they arent getting paid for it! :)

Glad she is going in, hope it really is just teething though.

  • I took her in earlier. She screamed the entire time. He said he thinks it's the start of something so don't be surprised if tomorrow she starts throwing up and/or coughing.

He also said it could be roseola or a UTI. If she's still got a fever tomorrow w no other symptoms they want to bring her in and put a bag on her and wait for her to pee for the UTI. I should just take her diaper off and turn on the shower. The kid pees on the bathroom floor every time!!

We had to do the urine bag too. Thankfully he peed right away. If it is roseola the fever lasted 3 days for us and he woke up the next morning with a rash. The fever sucked but other than that he was fine. Happy thoughts to you both for a quick recovery!
