9 month old early riser! Anyone else?

Hi there, my 9 mo old has started to wake up very early in the morning and wondering if any of you had advice on my current schedule to see if I can tweak it or if I just may have an early riser for now. 5:00 am is just so early! Plus, he usually has a poopy diaper. Ok, here is my current early bird schedule. I am not complaining I know it could be a lot worse but just wanted some advice if possible. Thank you in advance! :

5:00/5:30-wake
6:00-bottle
7:30-breakfast
8-8:30-NAP-usually sleeps for 1.5 hours
10:00-bottle
12:00-lunch
1:00-NAP-usually sleeps until 2:30
3:00-bottle
5:00-dinner
7:00-bottle and bed

Re: 9 month old early riser! Anyone else?

  • My little guy goes to bed between 8:00 and 9:00 and he still gets up at 5 most mornings.  Makes me crazy, because I'm not an early riser by choice, and I refuse to keep him up later than 9.  I NEED that hour of me-time before bed.  This is a new development since he started teething molars, though, and I'm really hoping that it ends when they finally come in.  He used to get up at 7.  I miss those days.

  • how long has this been going on? it could be a phase. DS was doing this for a while.
  • We have almost the same schedule but my little buy goes down around 6:00pm. I have heard that early awakenings are due to late bedtimes. That being said, I don't really subscribe to  "rules".  You  might think about an earlier bedtime but if it's not bothering you too bad and he is happy maybe just see if it is a phase.
  • We have a similar schedule. I hate it. He goes to bed around 7-7:30 and is up around 5-5:30. I try nursing him I'm bed to try to get him to fall back asleep, but he just wants up for the day.
Earlier or later bed times have not helped at all in our case, I have tried both.
  • Ok, well at least I know I am not alone and appreciate your comments/advice:-)

  • Our LO has been waking at 5 since about 3 months. We start the bedtime routine at 5:30 with solids, 6:00 bath, story time for as long as he'll sit then bottle and bed. No matter what we do he's up between 4:30 and 5:30.

  • DS1 woke up in the 5:00 hour for more than the first year of his life. Some kids are just early risers, unfortunately.. It didn't matter if he went to bed earlier or later or how he napped, he was always up by 5:30! He woke up happy so I just let him babble in his crib and as a rule did not go in there before 6 if he wasn't  upset.
