I studied it as best I could using the Mongan Method book and really enjoyed my practice while I was pregnant.
I wanted to go med-free with the Hypnobirthing strategies, but I never was able to get myself into a completely relaxed state once my water broke and labor started. Unfortunately, I just didn't focus on it enough. I was able to use the breathing techniques to help me labor through moderate to strong surges until I got an epi at 5 cm. Then, when it was time to push, the relaxation strategies helped me close my eyes and rest between surges.
So all in all, my Hypnobirthing experience was not by-the-book, but I definitely used several strategies that helped me through the rough patches. I would recommend the Mongan Method book, practicing lots with your birth companion, watching videos on YouTube, and taking what you need from it! Good luck!
I took hypnobirthing classes. I labored med free till 7cm beforehand labor stalled and needed interventions. I had such a peaceful and calm labor because of hypnobirthing. I used music and lavender. I definitely recommend it.
I studied Marie Mongan's Hypnobirthing for my first birth. Due to a variety of reasons, I ended up with a C-section that birth, but it did help me sleep late in pregnancy and help manage the pain after my surgery. I didn't really get to use it during my second birth (a VBAC) and I honestly had doubts about my ability to get "hypnotized." However, after my 3rd birth I am a convert.
I delivered DS3 via VBAC and my doula and DH got me into an incredibly relaxed, hypnotic state and I was able to do it epi-free. I was incredibly calm and "in my own head" through labor and transition. My doula said she was impressed with how calm and relaxed I was all the way through. I remember everything but I was very much inside my own body and focusing on breathing through the contractions. It was really amazing and I highly recommend it!
