Nursing class?

I am planning on nursing for at least the first 6 months after my first LO is born. I am looking for opinions if it is beneficial to take a nursing class offered at the hospital. The class is covered by my insurance so it is no charge to me. Also, is it a class my husband would come to? Would it be beneficial for him as well? I think it might be a good idea if you haven't had much exposure to bfing before. It definitely couldn't hurt!

I agree, can't hurt to get as much information on it as possible. It could seem like something simple but there are a lot of issues that can arise with it and it's best to be all around educated on it. Breastfeeding was covered in the childbirth class I took and I definitely learned things I didn't know before. Also wouldn't hurt to have your husband receive the information so he understands how it works in case there are issues that need to be addressed.

I'm taking a bf class next week. It was included at no cost with our birthing class. I am similarly wondering how helpful it will be. I figure at least knowing basic techniques will be helpful and I'll feel little more confident. I think the best recommendation I've gotten from friends is learn what you can and don't be afraid to contact a lactation consultant for help when the baby is here.

I took a breastfeeding class at my hospital before G was born. I found it helpful. It's good to know about different holds, pumping, supply issues, so forth.

I'm planning on taking a bf class that's covered with the hospital I'm giving birth at. I didn't think hubby needed to go and honestly I don't plan on taking him since my memory (even with baby brain) is a heck of alot more retentive than his. I know quite a few women that breastfed that I am definitely going to utiize for advice! Luckily my OB's medical group is affiliated with a women's hospital that offers 24/7 lactation consultation and they even accept walk ins as well so you might want to look for something similar in your area.

You should absolutely educate yourself as much as possible! And your hubby should too as he will be your primary support. In addition to the class, I would bookmark and read now kellymom.com.

Yes it was a huge difference with that knowledge. And yes DH should go. That's the one piece of advice my hubs gives every soon to be dad.

Go, and take your DH with you. DH is a pedi, and while he knew most if the info covered, it was beneficial to have a second set of ears in the class to be able to remind me of things once DD was born.

I took the free course at Babies R Us, and would definitely recommend it. It really gave me an idea of what to expect, and also what products are useful to purchase versus unnecessary items. We got to try out different nursing pillows and see which ones we liked. We discussed different nursing pads (disposable versus washable). It was useful and full of information.

I think taking one is a good idea. I will be going next week. I wanted to take DH but he has to work. Ill take my mom so I have someone else with me

I am a FTM and planning on BF as well. I had no previous experience or knowledge with this so I attended the BF class offered at my hospital. I wasn't expecting too much but I actually learned a lot. I told my husband not to come but now wish I would have had him come to learn too! I would say if its covered by insurance and you have time GO! It could be very beneficial.
