Is my child the only one still on a bottle?

He WILL NOT drink milk from a cup. He will drink water from a cup, but if it's milk, he throws it down. We've tried lots of cups. Help me.

It wasn't a priority to get him off the bottle right at 12 months b/c he has been sick a lot and getting him healthy was the first priority. Now, I'm ready to be done with them. His older sister was easy to transition to the cup. It was no problem.

Re: Is my child the only one still on a bottle?

  • We still give bottles (half formula, half milk) at least a couple times a day. Owen's finally getting better with straws and more interested in solids so I'm hoping to phase out bottles entirely by 18mos.

  • We are - one at night and one first thing in the morning. Sometimes before a nap. She gets her water out of a straw cup. Sometimes she gets milk out of a straw cup too.

she actually has teeth now, so we will have to cut this out very soon.
  • she will drink milk from cups BUT she doesn't go to sleep without cuddles and or bottle.  Dr said we should be weaned at 15 months and Daddy wants that to happen... I'm not in any rush

  • We are still left with 2 bottles.

One in the morning and one before bed. The one in the morning we are weaning him. I dropped it by an ounce every two days or so. If he wants more ( and he usually does) he gets the "extra" in a cup. As soon as we are down to like 4 ounces we are going right to a cup with breakfast served as soon as we come downstairs.

Now, the night bottle is a whole different story. Not sure how I'm tackling that. Pedi tells me I have till 18 months. My theory is he won't be walking into preschool with it. I'll figure it our as we go. But I'm open to suggestions!

  • Still bottles here. I should have done it when he was interested in it but it was like ten months! He will drink from my cups but if I give him anything in a straw or sippy he throws it down. Also he will not take anything but a bottle for nap or bed times. He throws a huge fit. DH isn't in any hurry, neither am I, but I know it needs to be cut out soon.. :(

    OMG this is my life.
  • We went cold turkey. Z did the same thing. If it was milk in a cup, he'd sip it and then refuse to drink it. When it wasn't an option anymore, he drank it from the cup. I've heard some people started with smoothies in the cup and then slowly increased the milk till it was all milk. You could give that a go.

  • I found the morning bottle was the easiest to drop.. she gets up and plays almost immediately while I get her breakfast ready so no need

  • Ugh... Sounds like us. I don't mind the morning and night one but the 3 pm one got to go. I'm debating just dropping it and serving her a snack of straw cup with milk ( which she will throw) with a dairy snack at 3 pm. Thoughts ?
  • FFTC: I bribed LO with cookies in order to get him to drink milk from a straw cup. :\">

He would drink water from cups, but refused milk... Until I bought animal cookies. I made him take sips between cookies. Now, he will drink an entire sippy cup of milk anytime I offer it (even without cookies)

I just recently got rid of the 3pm bottle. I just replaced it with a snack and water.

  • We still do a bottle before DD's nap.  It's a pretty small bottle and I think she's almost ready to be done with it.  She still needs a bed time bottle though. I'm thinking that'll last for another month or two.

  • We have been off bottles for a while, but I still nurse him morning and night. Pretty sure I could drop the morning session but the night one is part of his routine and how he relaxes. He gets BM and water from a sippy during the day.

  • We are still on bottles :(.  I am going to try next week. . . maybe the transition is worse in my head than it will actually be.

This, we have one bottle left and its before bed.  pedi said 18 mo so we're going with that
  • we replaced the bottle with a cup.  At this age, I wouldn't be too worried about LO going on a milk strike for a few days-- I'd just give milk in cereal and give yogurt those days-- and keep offering milk in a cup and see if they come around.  Mine took 2 weeks of us offering it at every meal before she would take more than 2 sips. And now she loves it.
Have you played around with temperature?  Our LO will drink a lot more if the milk is warm

This, except DS doesn't care about cuddles; he just wants the bottle. We still give it at naps and bed time. I want to make him quit it cold turkey, but DH and DS aren't ready to quit. Sometimes in the car he'll ask for "ba-oh" (bottle) or "na-na" (night night, another word that he calls bottle), but I usually don't give it to him then because I figured it's ok to tell him no sometimes, and I don't want him making a mess in the car.

Tried this. She did not get the concept of the bribe. Just screamed for the effin cookies.

  • Still on bottles here, morning and night. Pedi here doesn't seem to care much, but I'll ask him next time when we should wean her.
  • @hummingbirdbaby3 so there so there is no concern about not getting enough calcium, right? So how many oz does B get of milk daily? M will be 12.  Freaking hates the damn straw cup.
  • I tried yesterday to give LO a sippy again, he got mad after the 20th time I handed it to him instead and bit the plastic lid part, screamed at it and threw it. Lol so I got the straw one, he bit the nipple pulled it and threw it. Finally he was crying mad and I was fed up so I got him a bottle.
We are starting the process of moving, so I'm putting that battle off until we r in the new place!
