Re: Another baby fever poll.

  • Mine was 4 hours and I thought I was dying. I think I would have died if it was longer like some others I've heard about.

  • Mine was 7 1/2 and I thought I was dying too. I threw up after every single contraction & my epidural (which was heaven) barely had time to work.

  • I had my daughter in 4 hours but this LO took 16 hours to come out. My daughter is still so easy going and Carter takes his time doing things. So funny!

Yep! There was only one anesthesiologist and he was taking care of a dying person as I was told, he came in when I was at 9cm and asked if I still wanted it. Being out of my mind I said yes.. it worked on one side for 10 minutes lol $1000 down the drain!

Like @knitfaced I pushed for like 10-15 minutes.

Cameron was 9 hours, from waking up with contractions to pushing him out. It took 51 minutes of pushing... it would have been faster, but I was afraid of pooping.

Casey was induced. It took forever. But I only pushed for 9 minutes. And I totally pooped :D

I picked 11-15 for DD but it wasn't like labour-labour the entire time. Lol. Like when I woke up in the morning I knew I was going to have a baby by the end of the day. Hahaha. I told DH he would have to leave work early because I was pretty sure I was in labour. He left work at noon. We left for the hospital at 3:30 and got there at 5pm. I had her by 9pm.
With DS I didn't realize I was in active labour until 4 pm at my doctor's appt, and I had him by 3 am. I was uncomfortable all day and looking back I was in the early stages the day before, but it was by no means painful the entire time.

  • 25 hours, but that's counting from when my water broke. I didn't really have contractions until the Pitocin fully kicked in about 8 hours later.

  • My answer is 0 hrs.

I never went into labor. Noah was 8 days late. The day I was going to be induced they did a BPP ultrasound before induction. He wasn't moving at all and they thought he was in fetal distress so we ended up with an emergency c-sec even before they tried to induce me.

I don't regret my csec or not delivering vaginally but I do wish that I felt at least one good contraction. Feel like I missed out.

  • @Aprilbaby49 Aww I'm sorry :( If it's any consolation, every "good" contraction that I had made me want to DIE. Either I am a wuss or... maybe I'm just a wuss. But at least you have an adorable baby boy out of it!

I feel so bad for those of you whose epidurals did not work. I have said it before and I'll say it again... I got that needle in my back and literally, ANGELS SANG.

I was in labor for 8.5 hours, which I thought was pretty quick! I think I was having very strong and painful contractions for about 3 hours before I got the epidural, and it was awful... but after that, I felt great! I was at 9-9.5 cm for several hours, which I feel made it go by more quickly, because the whole time I thought that he was ABOUT to come and I was so excited! I ended up stalling out at had to get pitocin at the end.

  • 12 hours and not as bad as I thought it would be. Woke up at 7am with contractions went to the hospital around 3pm checked in epi and then a short time pushing she was born at 7pm.
It was so fast DH didn't have time to go back to the car for our bag.

  • I voted 6-10 because my labor with Noah was about 6 hours. My labor with DD, however, was 29.

  • 27 hours, 3 pushing with DS and about 5 hours, 15 minutes pushing with DD. I think I could have gotten DD out even quicker if I hadn't been pushing while laying on my back. They did an episiotomy though and then she shot out of me. Speaking of inappropriate over-shares...

  • The labor itself -- 12 hours -- didn't bother me too much, I actually sort of enjoyed the process.  But the pushing (3.5 hours), was brutal and I was so exhausted by that time, baby wasn't coming, and every time he made any progress, he'd just go right back up... that part SUCKED.  So, emergency c/s, FTW! :-)

19 hours - almost to the minute - with four hours of pushing. I gave birth at home in a birthing tub and walked away from it thinking it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. My mom labored for 36 hours with me, so that's what I was preparing myself for.

  • Water broke at 11:45 PM - contractions began shortly after. Checked into hospital at 1:30 and was pushing at 4:45. Those 3 hours were agonizing. I too was barfing through each and every contraction, although oddly enough that was a good release in helping with the pain. I got my EPI at 2:30 but it barely worked. It was a total disapointment.

I then pushed from 4:45 AM until 8:05 AM..... Little stinker did not want to come out and kept getting stuck under my bone. I thought for sure I was headed for a c-section and one thing I remember clearly from a really blurry experience is my dr telling my husband she couldn't do a c section at this point because of how the baby was positioned.....and me thinking - How the F am I gong to get this kid out?!?! AHHAHA.

I had totally mentally prepared for a long labor and still can't believe how quickly things went. People are always telling me how lucky I am to have had such a short labor - but I will never be sold given how intense it was. I also have this weird feeling that whenever I have number 2 its going to be a long, slow process. HAHA.

  • I never went into labor. I went directly from a routine OB appointment to the hospital, where they did some tests and told me the results would take a few hours. My husband and I were talking about where to go for lunch when the doctor came in, said I had severe pre-e (this was 15 minutes after they took the tests) and Miles was delivered a few hours later. I don't think we processed anything that happened during that day until a few weeks later. Terrifying, when I look back on it.
  • 30 hours... my water never broke..

painless for 8 hours thanks to the epidural. but i pushed for 3 hours and the epidural had already run out.

I dont know how i did it. But i would do it again in a heart beat :)
  • I was induced at 7 am on April 15th.  I delivered him via emergency csection at 9:00 pm on Tuesday April 16th.  So that's about a good 38 hours.  I was allowed to get up once to get a shower and when I did my water broke....so the rest of the time I wasn't allowed to get out of bed.  TOTALLY SUCKED
Oh, if you count from the start of the induction, it was 7 PM on March 28th and I delivered him at 11:30 PM on the 29th! I was counting it from the morning of the 29th when they started the pit!

My pit started at 7am.  :(
So did mine -- but at 7 PM the night before, they placed the cervadil... so from cervadil to c section it was more like 29 hours... but I only count it as labor, really, from the time they started the pit -- so I labored for 12 hours and then pushed for 3 and then had a c/section.  God I'm more exhausted remembering it than I think I was at the time!

I was in labor for 7 hours and pushed for 45 minutes. I was really lucky to have such a great experience and can't wait to do it again (assuming all goes as well next time!)

ETA: It makes me really sad that everyone else didn't have the same experience. I can't imagine the stress that so many of you guys went through with your labor.

You know what's crazy?  After everything I said above, I ended up being put under general anesthesia because my epidural wore off.  After I came home from the hospital, I got smacked with a terrifying migraine that made everybody think I was having a stroke, and went BACK to the ER for a CT scan and MRI until 4 AM.

But I don't think back negatively or badly about any of it... all I think about is DH being the most amazing "doula" ever, walking the halls with me, holding my hands, taking care of me, helping me push... and taking such good care of our son while I was laid up... and how amazing my recovery was from my c/s and how lucky I felt to have him by my side.

So, it is what you make of it.

They "threatened me" with a vacuum assist which made me muster up the strength to finally push him out with the doctor's help. The cord was wrapped around his neck twice so he kept sliding back in. When he finally came out the umbilical cord ripped and blood flew everywhere (it was very dramatic)... he was blue and it was terrifying! Luckily he was ok but we didn't exactly experience the peaceful moment of birth. Luckily things were peaceful for #2.

  • Labor started at 10p on a Wednesday evening - labored at home until about 9p on Thursday and was sent home around 11:30p... I was back at the hospital about an hour later and finally admitted.  I had my epidural around 7a and water was broke shortly after that.  Miss B was born at 1:59p on Friday afternoon.  So, all in all, it was about 40 hours!

  • I labored for 12 hrs. including 15 mins. of pushing.  My water never actually broke (although I would've sworn it had until the Dr. broke it right before crowning).  With no meds, every contraction was excruciating!  I did get some topical anesthesia b/c the Dr. could tell I was going to tear a little.  Pushing, for me, wasn't the hardest part- it was surviving the contractions.  Of course it was all worth it & luckily recovery was rather quick.

  • 21.5 hours. My water broke at home but my contractions hadn't started. Doc said they needed to get the baby out within 24 hours after this happened to reduce the risk of infection in both me and baby. So off to the hospital to start ridiculous amounts of pitocin. Horribly painful, strong contractions, 2.5 hours of pushing, a threatened c-section and suction he finally came out sunny side up at 9 pounds 3 oz with a 15 inch head!!! (average is 12) Doc said the next one should be a breeze since I was able to make it through that with a first.

  • I'm not exactly sure.  I guess I was in labor (back labor maybe? my back was KILLING me),  I was 3-4 cm dilated when the started the emergency-ish c-section (pre-E).

If I was in labor, being, back labor, I'd say I was probably in early labor for 12 hours or so.  Never got to active labor.

TTC since May 2006. After 3 failed Clomid cycles, 2 failed Injectibles/IUIs, 2 failed IVFs and 1 failed FET, we moved on to adoption!

  • 16 hrs from the first contraction at 3am to birth at 7pm, but most of the day I was up and about walking hallways and calling family at the hospital.  It wasnt until late afternoon that they broke my water at 8cm that the reaaaaaally bad-I-want-to-die contractions started up for over an hour, then the kill-me-now-I-changed-my-mind-about-the-epidural pushing for 1hr 20 min.
