Looks like I'm out

While my us on Tuesday showed progression. Larger gestational sac, and the appearance of a yolk sac...

The HCG betas tell differently. On Tuesday the numbers were 27,547...which isn't terrible. But my numbers on Thursday were only 27,847...only a 300 increase.

they are going to do one more U/S on Tuesday to confirm.

ladies who have Mc before early in preg. (I would be 6w5d today) what do they usually do? Do you have to take meds? Or D/c... I just want to know what to expect when I go Tuesday.

Re: Looks like I'm out

  • I'm sorry about your betas. I had a miscarriage at 8 weeks. I wasn't having my betas monitored, nor had I had an ultrasound yet, so when the bleeding started it was a complete shock. The miscarriage itself was physically painless - just some light cramping. It was the emotional side that was difficult. I believe you will have the choice about whether to pass the baby naturally or with medical assistance. I never got to make that choice, but from my experience passing it naturally was easy (physically). I wish you all the best.

  • I am so, so sorry. The wait for confirmation is just crappy.

I was 10 weeks but only measuring 6, and was given the option to wait or have a D&C. I went with the D&C, at that point I needed closure and didn't know how long the wait might be.

    T&P to you.

  • I'm so sorry. The wait is awful. I was 8 weeks, but measuring about 6, with my m/c. I was given the option of waiting, which could take some time, or D&E. I went with the D&E because I felt like it was better for me to just get to that point instead of waiting an indeterminate amount of time. Everyone is different on this though, just know that whatever you decide is the right decision for you. Take good care of yourself :(

  • :( I was 10 weeks only measuring a little over 7. My doc thought it best to go with a D&C based on how far along I was and since it was my first pregnancy to get it over with quick. It wasn't bad, more emotionally sucky

  • I am so very sorry to hear this.  I am still going to pray for a miracle.  You are in my prayers.
  • I miscarried naturally at about 6.5 weeks and it was VERY painful.  Ask your doctor for some STRONG painkillers.  I thought I was going to throw up the pain was so bad.  I don't want to scare you, it was over in a few hours, but I don't think you should have to feel that physical pain when you're already going through so much.  Lots of hugs to you, so sorry you have to go through this.

  • I went in with a ultrasound at 7 weeks but only was measuring 6 weeks and no heartbeat:( I had been spotting all through the pregnancy. I was told to wait and do it naturally which is what I wanted but it was the most painful experience physically mentally and emotionally. I miscarried 3 weeks later and the actual process of passing everything was one hour. I'm so sorry you are going through this. Are you feeling pregnancy symptoms?
  • I am so sorry you are going through this. However, first and foremost-- at 6 weeks the betas are pretty much pointless tests to be running. At that point they pretty much give zero indications of how the pregnancy is going.

We're you temping/charting or are you just going off the date of your last period to figure your pregnancy?  If you weren't temping you could have ovulated later in your cycle which would explain why you are behind.  If you were temping/charting and are 100% sure of your ovulation date then that would be a little more cause for alarm.

If indeed you are having a miscarriage it will really depend on the options that your OB presents you.  I had three choices to choose from.  One, we could have let everything pass naturally.  Two, we could take medicine that caused the process to start and the miscarriage to happen. Or three, we could have the d&c.

Our little one had already been gone for 2.5 weeks when we found out and who knows how long it would have taken for me to naturally miscarry so we passed on that choice. The medicine does not always work and if not everything passes you have to go in for a d&c anyways.  We elected to go ahead with the d&c because it was painless and quick. For the bad situation that it is having a miscarriage,  the d&c was great. I was knocked out while they did it and recovery was super quick.

Good luck and I will keep my fingers crossed that you get good news!!!!

  • I am so very sorry you are going through this.  For my loss, they let me choose to try meds or schedule a D&C.  I was 11 weeks, but the baby was measuring just under 9.  I chose to do the D&C because of how far along I was and the fact that my body didn't know anything was wrong for a few weeks, so I was concerned that the meds wouldn't completely work and I would end up needing a D&C anyway.  My OB also suggested the D&C for my situation.  I also wanted the physical part over as quickly as possible, so I could move on to the emotional healing.  I still bled for 16 days after the D&C, so it's a long process no matter which route you take.  ((HUGS))

Good luck to you, I will be thinking of you.

  • I'm so sorry. I just recently went through almost the exact situation. I was going to choose a D&C but my body had other plans and mc'd naturally. I was 7w5d at the mc but only had a gest sac that measured 5w4d at the last us. It was painful but not quite as bad as I had anticipated. You should research all the options and think about which one works best for you. Everyone is different in this aspect. I really just wanted to move on quickly. Hop on over to the mc board when you are ready. We are a really welcoming bunch who are just trying to get through this together. Good luck and again I'm sorry.

  • I am so sorry for your loss.

To answer your question it's really up to you and your doctors as to the route to take. I've been lucky enough to have a body that does an excellent job (sarcasm in case that wasn't obvious) of m/cing all by itself without the help of medication or surgery. I did have a D&C with one of my m/c and it was very easy physically since I didn't bleed or cramp at all, it just really sucked emotionally, as any m/c does, it was just especially hard on me due to circumstances. There are pros and cons to all options. If you'd like any more information you can PM me and I can answer any questions you might have.

  • I am so sorry for your loss, this is a terrible decision to have to make. My losses were all before the 6 week mark, and this is my first pregnancy with close monitoring. Mine went naturally, and it felt like 3-5 hours of horrible period cramping and very clotted blood. Whatever you choose, I hope it gives you peace.

  • I was given vaginal supositories. 4 for two days. They gave me severe cramps and massive bleeding. I was vomiting a lot and filling up a pad in 4 seconds and I basically thought I was dying. I was immobile, bleeding for like 8 hours nonstop. It was terrible I wouldn't recommend it. But the second day I passed the fetus in the sac, so I passed it whole.

  • I have had a d&c (Mmc, 13 weeks), & a natural (9 weeks). For me the natural mc was WAY worse. Lots of pain & cramps & lots of bleeding. Like concerned for my health amount of blood. Plus the natural lingered on for longer. Both were awful, but for me the d&c was better physically. So sorry you are going through this. T & P

I wouldn't count yourself out yet. This early you can be off by a week and it still be normal. Specially because you were not charting your taking a stab in the dark. If I were you, I would not do anything until another week and a repeat ultrasound. NOT an hcg test, an ultrasound!

  • I had mine at 6 weeks that started with a week of brown spotting. My betas didn't double and the TV ultrasound showed a blighted ovum. My OB didn't want to do a d+C due to potential scarring that could affect future pregnancies (especially since I didn't have any kids). So, I had about 2 hoirs of the most severe cramps of my life, diarrhea and general nausea and feeling like shit. Then I bled like a light period for another 2 weeks.

  • I had my D&C at 10w. It was quick with only a day of pain. I didn't really bleed much in the next few days because the nature of the procedure is to empty the cervix, so there wasn't much left. I got my next period about 7 weeks later. It's the emotional healing that takes the longest time.
I'm so sorry this is happening. Please take care of yourself.

I'm so sorry - I m/c naturally about the same time last time but my baby had stopped growing at 5w1d. My doctor said if it didn't progress on its own (I was already spotting and cramping at the time), she would prescribe meds. She didn't feel a D&C was necessary. Everyone is different though. Lots of ((hugs))

ETA : I agree with the others that you shouldn't give up hope. Let us know how the next u/s goes. I'll be sending T&Ps for an awesome outcome.

  • I can't believe it!!

So, I went in, told the U/S tech (my new BFF for the past 3 weeks) the bad news, and that I wasn't expecting any good news from this.

THERE WAS A BABY and a HEARTBEAT!!!   152bpm!  I am still in some shock I think.  I spent 4 days preparing myself for this appointment.  I just bursted into tears.

My doc thinks that i was hitting the top of my bell curve in the HCG hormone and that is why they thought it was bad news (a diff doc is who called me, but my doc said she thought the same when she saw the results).

I can't believe it!  Hubby and I are so happy right now!  I think i'll be cautiously opptomistic until my NT scan in March.. BUT YAY!!

Thank you ladies for all your FX and T&Ps, I greatly appreciated them!
