Potty training question/vent

Ds is going to be 3 in May. I thought he was ready for potty training so a week ago Monday we started naked time, then started undies on Wednesday and pants yesterday. He did really well the first few days. Peeing and pooping most of the time in the potty and minor accidents. But he has progressively been getting worse! First pooping not in the potty and then more pee accidents and today nothing in the potty everything on the floor and not noticing/caring. This morning he was only in undies because i found the pants only made everything worse.

I am beyond frustrated but was trying to stay positive and not let that show. But after accident after accident this morning I asked if he wanted his diapers back. He did. So i told him he could have a diaper but babies in diapers nap and so he had to nap as well. (He gave up naps months ago but is SO tired.)

Is a regression normal this early in learning or do you think he just isn't ready? He can stay dry if he goes out of the house it seems (was out on the weekend with my mom and a few times with dh).

No idea what to do at this point.

You are defiantly right about the diaper/napping thing. I was at my wits end this morning and needed some time away from him. I can't believe it but he is actually napping!!

I think i might just leave him in diapers for awhile though and try again. I don't want a battle. I just really thought he was ready.

We did similar to @curlingrocks- we started when he first showed interest but then he regressed and we totally dropped it, but kept the potty seat around and let he go if he needed to. Then one day he just said "I'd like to to wear big boy underware" and that was that.
