Bassinet bumper vs crib bumper?

So my mil has this old wicker bassinet that she used with her kids, her sisters used with their kids, DHs cousins have used for their kids, and now it's been passed to us.

It has a new mattress and all, but mil worked really hard and made bumper pads and sewed new sheets for it.

Would you guys keep the bumper pads on? Or take them off? My only reason for wondering is because before she brought it over, we had been using our stroller that has a bassinet attachment....so that bassinet has walls which are basically the same as the bumper pads...

Thoughts?

    I've used bumpers and not used them.  If it's going to keep you up at night... take them out.  The peace of mind is worth it.  You don't have to tell her ;-)
