October 2013 Moms

i'm going to buy a girasol woven wrap right now but..

I had a question.  I never wore LO before and she will be 4months on the 17th.  Do you think we will have a hard time baby wearing at this point and I should just not even bother?  She likes to be held chest to chest so I'm hoping she'll like it haha.

  • I rarely wear dd. she's 4 months, but she likes being in it and surfing up looking at everything.

  • I wear DD all the time and she loves it-- looks around from a bird's eye view or falls asleep.

  • It may just take some practice. My son will be 4 months on the 17th also :0)   We used a stretchy wrap early on and loved it, but now that he is bigger and likes to move around a lot more i find the wrap to be a little difficult. That being said, a woven wrap might be easier since it's not quite as snug... but we use a ring sling now and he seems comfy in that.

  • 4 months is a great time to start!  Gira wraps are great for beginners because the rainbow pattern will help you differeniate what is the top and bottom rails.  Youtube has some wonderful and easy to follow tutorials. Wovens are so great and their resale value is high!  From wrap cross carry, kangaroo carry, and front cross carry are all great front positions that are great for beginners.

  • Also- If she freaks in and cries initially-- give it time.  Just keep breathing and staying focused on your wrap job.  A lot of babies don't like being wrapped, but once the wrap job is done they are in heaven.

You could.  But to be honest it takes a bit of time to learn to wrap and for baby to enjoy it. I would start with a good base size.  I'm 5'4 and size 8 pants right now and use a size 6 for my base size. Base size meaning I can do most all carries with that size wrap. If your petite I recommend a 5 for a base size and likewise a 7 if your plus size. IF you do buy, you can always resell it for pretty much what you paid for if you join " the baby wearing swap" on Facebook.  Let me know if you have any other questions :)

  • Also- pax baby doesn't have a great return policy and prices are high. I recommend marsupial mamas

I second what @babyLOLO13 said. I just got my first woven wrap yesterday in a 6 and it's a Gira snow diamonds. I love it and my LO loves it too. It's a beautiful rainbow with a diamond weave.

I've only tried the front wrap cross carry so far and it took a bit of time to get the rails tight enough but once I did it was a super comfortable carry and DS passed out.

Definitely don't give up if your LO fusses though. Normally they'll calm down once they're wrapped and if they don't, just walk away and try again later.

I got mine from pinkletickbaby and it shipped out quickly.

Also babywearing faith's videos on YouTube are great. And babywearing 102 on FB is great for tips and a great place to ask questions too.

Good luck and post a pic of the wrap you get!

  • do you prefer diamond weave vs the twill weave?

  • asilwhite thanks! What made you purchase the diamond weave instead of twill?

  • The diamond weave girasol was thinner, cooler, more supportive, and grippier. Also- I prefer the look of the diamond weave over twill. :)

And yep- wonky sizes. The same size is talked about in different ways.  A 4.6 meters= a size 6, a 5.2 meters = size 7.
