Sleeping issues for my 10 mo old

We had finally gotten into a good sleeping routine about a month ago. My DD has never been a good sleeper and would only nap on me. She finally started falling asleep in crib on her own for naps around 9 months. Then came the holidays and she learned how to walk, turn over in her crib and stand up, and got a molar all at once. Things were starting to settle down a bit and then this week happened. She will not nap. Nope. Is totally refusing to nap in the morning, however is exhausted and I know she is not ready to give her nap up. I tried spacing the nap out long so it's three hrs after wake up because she is showing signs of being tired then but she will not nap. I have had to drive around in the car everyday this week to get her to nap and she totally falls asleep within five minutes of driving. Then since her morning nap is so late she's been taking a late afternoon nap (around 4) and not going to bed until 9 or ten. The afternoon nap has been a struggle as well. I have no idea what is going on. She's tired. She's yawning and rubbing her eyes and showing all signs of being tired but as soon as we go to the crib she sits up and won't nap. I've let her cry it out, I've gone in and soothed. Nothing is helping. What is going on? She can't be giving up a nap already can she?

  • Yup. Same thing here. We were doing great for the past couple of months. Even waking just once (or none at all) at night. Now naps are hit or miss and short. Last night she was up playing in her crib for over 2 hrs which has never happened.

I've never really put much belief in wonder weeks but there is supposed to be one around now. Maybe that's it?

  • Interesting. Good to know its normal. But how frustrating, right? Dd didn't nap at all this afternoon and only took a car nap this morn. Here's hoping it goes back to normal soon!
  • we went through that a few weeks ago, and i think it had to do with being sick and also him learning to stand. my advice is to be consistent, continue putting down for naps in crib and don't let driving around become a habit. the worst days when he absolutely refused to sleep and was crying, i took him out, and then tried again an hour or two later. one day he took one four hour nap in the middle of the day, and for a few days he only took the morning or afternoon. now he's back to two naps about 1.5 hours each, and i def think he still needs them. my older son moved to one nap around 13.5 months, and i'd like to continue 2 for the little guy until at least after his first bday.
