Pelvic pain...and some other not-so-fun things

Hi ladies...I'm stalking from the March board. I'm a FTM and my due date is March 1, but docs are saying they'll probably want to induce on Feb. 24 because I've recently been put on insulin. I just wanted to vent/rant and maybe get some insight from some of you...

I'm a little over 35 weeks now, and I've had a relatively easy pregnancy up to this point. Never had morning sickness, not too much weight gain, not much pain or discomfort. But now, for the past few days, I can't even walk without serious discomfort in my lower belly/pelvic area. I can't sleep well because my back is throbbing. My fingers and ankles are starting to get swollen. All of this is just suddenly happening. I'd have to say the pain in my pelvic area is the worst of all the side effects right now. Is all this normal? Maybe it's just alarming to me because I've felt great up to this point. Does the occurrence of any or all these things mean baby is ready to come out soon? Or anything like that? Or is this pretty much what I'm going to have to deal with for the next few weeks until they induce? Is there anything I can do to reduce some of this discomfort?

Thoughts? I appreciate anything you can share :)

Its probably all normal, but talk with your doc if you are concerned.

What you are describing is lovingly (ha) described as "lightening crotch" and yep, its all a part of the journey. Welcome to nearing the end of 3rd-tri with all the lovely and very uncomfortable symptoms. With getting put on insulin, the swelling is probably the part the Dr will want to hear about the most as he will want to check that out.

Edit: And no, the symptoms do not necessarily mean LO is coming any sooner.

  • I have had all of the above issues since about 25 weeks. The only real solution to the issue is to not be pregnant anymore.  In the mean time, what seriously helps me is a warm bath right before bed.  It relaxes my muscles and doesn't hurt as bad afterwards.
  • Everything pp said, watch your salt and see a prenatal chiropractor.
    Sry! HTH!

  • Yep, normal...  Heating pad and yoga ball and chiropractor have been my best friends for several weeks now.  Just a fair warning, this will get worse and there is not much relief with any of these methods.  I am 38 weeks, and I can barely walk when I get out of bed every morning.  I feel much better after a hot shower and moving around a bit.
  • Sounds pretty normal to me. I've had this since about week 32 and has progressively gotten worse but, thankfully LO will be making her debut soon and I should get some REAL relieve from the pregnancy woes then ;) but, like most pp say warm bath/ shower helps me a good amount and I have a heating pad that is in my recliner (where I have set myself up in the house) but, I also like the exercise ball fantastic for stretching out on to relieve some of the pressure off my hips and back (here's a picture so that you can see how I use it) I just go all the way back till I'm comfortable and sit there like that for a few minutes at a time before 'rolling' back up to a sitting position, and repeat till I feel better.
