Admitted to L&D for first time :-( (FeinBride)

Welllllll guess who is spending the next 48 hours in L&D? This girl. Sigh. I felt foolish initially calling my doctor today honestly (I know I shouldn't but I mean, all these symptoms have double meaning and I know I'm sensitive with this pregnancy). But I'm glad I did.

Had been diagnosed with a UTI last Thursday at my bi-weekly appt and while I usually get 1 or so a year, I didn't have many typical symptoms other than the increased to constant need to pee. Well today was day 5 on the meds and that hadn't changed. I've also been dealing with hot and cold flashes, claminess (neither typical for me ever), lower abdomen pain, lower back pain, slight occasional nausea since late last week. So I called. They sent me to get monitored and while my sample came back negative, my doc came in and asks "so are you feeling those contractions?" Then she checks me and I'm 50% effaced. I think my face was priceless. I guess now I know what they feel like .... I had no idea, just thought it was Lower abdomen pain.

So now I am admitted for a possible kidney infection despite the antibiotics which is likely 48 hours. Not in preterm labor but i think that's why they have me here - to make sure I don't get to that point. On IV fluids and antibiotics and waiting for a u/s to be sure I don't have kidney stones I believe.

And to think, 10 minutes before the nurse and My doctor came in, I was telling DH how I'd be out of here in the next half hour and what should we go get for dinner?? I think even he was surprised I wasn't over reacting ...

So needless to say ladies, I guess I'm now a prime example of why we should all listen to our guts and call, even when we think it's really fine. All my symptoms could be regular pregnancy side effects. But apparently they aren't. Feeling ok though, hurting some but hoping all clears up and gets back on track soon.

Any time killing ideas? I've got lots of it it seems ;-)

Oh no. That all sounds miserable. But it sounds like you're getting the attention you need and have a good attitude about it. I hope it's just a matter of time till things feel better.

So glad you called and got checked out. I hope the IV antibiotics and fluids help knock all this out for you so you can relax in comfort and keep LO baking a little longer.

Oh goodness! I am sorry your going through this. Maybe if you have a laptop you could start a series on Netflix? For a long one I loved LOST but for a short one I am drawing a blank...feel better soon!

All good ideas to try tomorrow! Thanks ladies! Doing ok. No stones, waiting for check up in morning now I guess. Try to sleep. DH and I just realized it's my first night ever sleeping in the hospital. So odd. Hope I can get some sleep ....

O my gosh! How scary! I'm so glad you called and that LO is hanging in there! Pinterest, Netflix, and the Sims could keep me occupied for hours. I hope you got some rest throughout the night. Keep us posted.

I'm glad you called the Dr but that stinks that you're there for 2 days

Maybe you can catch up on some movies you haven't seen yet (if there's a TV in the room) or maybe get caught up in a good book you've been putting off. There's always online shopping

Thanks ladies. So far so good but times dragging for sure. DH just got back here w/ the iPad and my work laptop yay! Forgot that last night. Still waiting for the doc to come in and check in and answer the million questions I have since everything hit us both so quickly last night - neither of us really had time to process everything they said and formulate questions really. So hoping to get a better understanding of what this all means . . .

But, I'm thinking that while baby girl is baking away and seems to be doing well, considering the 50% effacement, she might not quite make her due date . . . eek! Hopefully I'm wrong. Fingers crossed maybe all is ok though and they'll let me go tonight instead of tomorrow!

Hey @Qfrump! Yes - I was finally released late last night and SO glad to be home. They confirmed the kidney infection for sure Tuesday afternoon which means a mandatory 48 hour stay for some super strong IV antibiotics unfortunately. Baby girl is doing just fine though, more me that's the patient this time thankfully. Taking it easy at home the rest of the week and have follow up Thursday to check me again since they found I was having contractions and 50% effaced already (eek). I know that alone isn't really an indicator of anything, but still kinda scary as the doc said it "could" be an indicator she will be here a bit earlier than her due date. Hoping to keep her baking til at least 36-37 weeks. So we shall see. I'm stuck on more antibiotics 4 times a day for 2 weeks, then 1-2 a day for the remainder of the pregnancy though. These things are no joke I guess. Apparently I'm an over achiever and allllways have to be in the top %. Supposedly only 1-2 % of us ladies end up with a kidney infection, but of those few, something like 40% have a reoccurrance - thus lots of meds for me. Ick. Better than this pain though and to keep baby girl where she belongs for now!

As DH said - she gave us a dry run. Now we know what to do when D-Day comes and what to pack at least ;-)

Lol @Qfrump! Tell me about it! Drama drama drama and she isn't even here yet! Hoping to get on some probiotics soon to help the poor tummy though .... It's rebelling a bit unfortunately. The things we do I guess.
