Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Amount of solids your baby eats

Just curious for other solid food babies, how much does your LO eat in a day? My son is 7.5 months old, has 1 four ounce jar in the morning, 1.5-2 four ounce jars at lunch, and dinner. So he is usually eating about 4-5 four ounce jars per day. He will also take a 5-6 ounce bottle anywhere from 45 mins to an 1-1.5 hours after the solid food. He is 75% for his weight and 95% for his height. Long and lean per his Pedi but I feel like he is eating a lot of solids.

Re: Amount of solids your baby eats

  • LO is also 7.5 months old.  He usually eats a tablespoon of home made veggie puree at lunch time and another at dinner time.  I usually don't offer more than that because it felt like starting solids a few weeks ago was a little rough, but now I think he'd probably eat more and he seems a lot more enthusiastic about solids than his bottle.

He's 60% for height and 48% for weight last well check at 6 months.

  • As long as YOU aren't replacing formula/BM with solids, the baby will usually self regulate.  My son would eat solids all damn day if I let him but he's not so much a fan of the bottle anymore.  We remedy that as much as possible by mixing a couple ounces of formula with cereal and giving him more finger foods.  What he likes is the idea of solids and the finger foods give him that pleasure but since he doesn't get quite as much in his mouth, he also drinks a little more since he isn't so full.  As long as he's maintaining his growth curve, it sounds fine to me.

  • DD is 8.5 months (6.5 adjusted) and eats about 2oz of solids 3x a day. She hasn't decreased the amount of milk she takes (we bf & supplement with preemie formula). She would keep eating more solids if I let her but I don't want her to be too full to take her milk/formula.

  • Our pedi said that eating a jar 3x a day would be normal and we should work our way to that between now (6 months) and 9 months old.

Like PP said, if he's still getting the right amount of milk then I wouldn't worry.  Pedi said between 24-32oz a day of milk plus solids was normal in her book.

  • I usually do about 3-4 oz for lunch and dinner and generally 2-3 for breakfast. We just introduced yogurt this week so for breakfast I scaled back a bit. I used to do 3oz of applesauce mixed with oatmeal or wheat cereal.

My 7 month old eats 3 meals a day but he feeds himself unless he's just too tired.

For breakfast this morning he had a scrambled egg, 1/2 a sausage patty, and 1/2 a peach.  He ended up getting a piece of rye bread with cream cheese also because the peach was a little too firm for him.  He ate most of the egg and all of the cream cheese sandwich and about 1/2 the sausage.

For lunch he gnawed on 1/2 apple then ate a cheese stick, a slice of beef baloney, and 1/2 a banana.

Dinner he had a few black berries, Mac & Cheese, broccoli, steak (he didn't eat the steak), and 1/2 banana.  I also gave him some prunes with cereal mixed in.

He also had about 16-20oz formula today.

  • We also do baby led weaning with nursing 5-6x a day. For breakfast he had about 1/2 a scrambled egg and most of a piece of toast with almond butter on it. He was lazy though, normally he eats much more. When I feed him oatmeal it will be 3 tablespoons mixed with 2 applesauce.    For lunch he had a couple of berries, a few tiny cubes of cheese, slice of turkey meatloaf and 2 broccoli stalks. For dinner he had another slice of turkey meatloaf and since I want to use up some puree he had 5 ice cube sizes. He also had 1/2 mango.

He seems to have a never ending pit but I limit it eventually because I don't want him to fill up too much on solids yet.

  • 8 month old. He eats two meals a day. He eats a few tablespoons of either yogurt or oatmeal with each meal. Then we make all of our own baby food purees, and he will have two cubes of a puree at each meal too. (A cube is about an ounce.)
  • 7.5 actual / 6 adjusted. They nurse 5-8x times a day depending on night wakings. I'd ballpark it at 25-28oz each.

The eat two meals a day of 2-3oz each. They also get at least one finger food per day as well, BLW style. I'll prob start a third meal soon.
