One twin not totally focusing

My girls are 9 weeks Tuesday. Baby A is cooing, smiling and focusing really well. Baby B will coo and smile here and there and she occasionally looks at me in my eyes. She is my grumpy girl. Cries a lot and spits up a lot. I KNOW they say don't compare, so should I give her a break since she was 3 weeks early? She stares a lot at lamps, blinds, the TV. We have their 2 month appointment on Wednesday so I'll ask then.

Re: One twin not totally focusing

  • I wouldn't worry too much yet.  They may develop skills at a slightly different pace.  My ID girls are 3 1/2 mo.  One girl is very vocal and started cooing and babbling a couple weeks earlier than the other.  She is very social and loves to smile at people and laughs a lot. My other girl talks and babbles now too, but it took her a bit longer to start, she was much more interested in moving around and developing her physical skills.  She learned to grab and hold objects earlier and it looks like she will be the first to roll over and probably sit up first.

Their differences are really noticeable when I put them on the activity mat.  Lizzy doesn't vocalize too much but stares at all the objects very intently and then will try to grab them and put them in her mouth.  She swings her legs and tries to move closer to toys she's interested in.  Haley on the other hand, is happy to just lie there and talk her head off to whatever toy is hanging closest to her.  She's not so interested in trying to roll over or move too much.

  • Mine do the same thing. It takes B about 3 weeks to catch up to A with this. I always tell myself they are individual people and there is a wide range if normal for them to hit those milestones if that makes sense. Mine were 6 weeks early A never acted like a preemie but B dose and even lags behind his adjusted age.

    Together 6 wonderful years.

  • My daughter lags behind her brother. She had severe IUGR so I always get concerned when she's not doing something her brother is. But so far, she has hit everything H has, just a little later.
