asking for cervical exam?

I will be 33 weeks at my appointment on Thurs. I don't think my Dr office usually checks for dilation until 36 or 38 weeks. I have been super uncomfortable partially because of my SPD but I also feel a ton ofpressure really low. Should I just mention it or should I ask to be checked? My dr office recently merged and it is a huge practice now but I feel like time and individual attattention has been cut short. Would it be weird to ask them to check or should I see if they offer. Sorry if this is stupid. DD 2 hasn't been sleeping so neither have I.

Re: asking for cervical exam?

  • I doubt they will check you. I have been feeling a lot of pressure down low for the past couple of weeks. I'm pretty sure it's normal because my doctor didn't think a lot of it

  • At my 34 week appointment last week my doctor offered and I turned her down.  She said that unless I'm feeling contractions there isn't a point in checking yet.  Plus apparently it can be uncomfortable.

  • If you want to be checked, ask. I would just tell them what I have been feeling and see what they say. Pressure is normal at this point though.

  • This is my third so I guess I can almost answer my own question this morning. Amazing what a bit of sleep can do :) I didn't feel this much pain and pressure until about 38 weeks last time and by then I was 2 cm but stayed that way for 2 weeks. I'll mention it on Thursday and see what they stay. I just hate that I will be seeing yet another new doctor and unless she takes the time to read my chart I will have to explain everything again. Thanks ladies

  • Being checked is very uncomfortable and sometimes painful! Pressure in the third trimester is normal baby is just getting ready to meet you. Unless you are experiencing contractions or leaking fluid I wouldn't worry. If you are worrying just mention it to your doctor that's what they are there for!

  • At my 34 week appointment with my first I told them I was feeling a lot if pelvic pressure. They checked me and said I wasn't dilated but that he was fairly low. It gave me peace of mind that I wasn't dilating yet, so I say ask if it will make you feel better! Even though I knew it could change, it helpede not worry about it. I never thought getting checked hurt.

  • I had an appointment today and I asked my doctor to check. She did and I found out I'm 1cm dilated. If you're concerned about something, just ask.
