diaper genie

I'm a FTM and had a question about the Diaper Genie. Every board I look at moms are saying.how useless it is but my DH, who has 2 kids from a previous marriage says it's the best purchase you can make. His kids are teens so his memory might be foggy,so I'm hoping for some more.recent.insight. does ANYONE like their Diaper Genie?

Re: diaper genie

  • We love ours. DD is 22 months and DS is 8 months. It works great, even with two sets of diapers. When we run out of bags and have to use a trash can, it drives me crazy with the smell. The bags are not the cheapest things, but it is totally worth it IMO. My mom even bought one for her house.

  • I still have a couple weeks until my baby is due, but my experiences with the diaper genie from working as a nanny have been great!! Anything is going to smell after more than a few days when it's full of dirty diapers, but I honestly never had any problems with the Diaper Genie Elite. We got one as a gift at our baby shower, and I'm glad we did. I also plan on using those little Arm and Hammer baking soda disks at the bottom of the pail to help with odor. I know a lot of people who buy the Diaper Genie bags on Amazon, and I've heard that the Target brand works well too.
  • I would also suggest the Ubbi Pail or Diaper Decor Plus.

  • Neither.  If you really want to get a trash can designed for diapers, get the Diaper champ.  It takes grocery bags, instead of pricey refills.  I wouldn't a lot of money on this either.  Once you are done with it, the thing will smell so foul, you are gonna want to trash it.

  • A number of friends recommended Diaper Dekor over Diaper Genie, but I have no first hand experience.
  • i hear in the beginning it's not as useful because baby's poop isn't that stinky...  but then when it starts getting stinkier people have told me it was worth it

This is my situation. DD is itty bitty and EBF so her diapers arent smelly. However, I do like having the Diaper Genie. We dont have any other trash bin in her nursery, so we need somewhere to put the diapers. I am sure I will appreciate it more once she starts solids. What would you do w the diapers if you dont get some type of diaper pail? Just curious.

  • Thanks for all the posts, this helps alot. We're definitely going with something, either a metal pail or the Diaper Genie. I'm putting it on my registry and see what happens.
