big drop in percentile

At 33 weeks our twins are estimated at 4lb11oz and 4lb6oz, but Baby B went from being the bigger one at the 61st percentile to being the smaller one at the 40th percentile. Has anybody else had this drastic of a drop from one growth scan to another? There were three weeks in between the two scans. Our doctor doesnt seem overly concerned. Just wondering if anyone else has had this happen?

Re: big drop in percentile

  • My twins are di/di. Around 28 weeks they were measuring within afew ounces of one another. Around 32 weeks they were a little over a pound different. If I remember correctly baby B was in the 13th percentile. My MFM wasn't concerned like I thought he would be. In the end I delivered at 37 weeks 5 days and baby A was exactly 2 pounds heavier than baby B.

  • We just had this happen to us. Up until our growth scan at 31 weeks both twins (di/di) were measuring almost identical in size. At 31 weeks we found that baby B only "grew" half as much as baby A (they didn't give us a change in percentile). We went back in 3 weeks instead of our usual 4 and found that baby A has remained on track at 33rd percentile, but baby B is just hanging in there at the 5th percentile. As long as their NST's continue to look good they just want us to deliver by 37 weeks.

  • We had that happen somewhere in the mid-20 weeks, and our girls went in a few weeks from being in the 40s & about the same size to one being at 18 & the other at 10. Our little one got even smaller after that, it was a terribly anxious time for us--drs don't worry until babies dip below the 10% mark & they're officially labeled small--My reason for sharing this is just to reassure you that everything turned out fine, the docs kept a very sharp eye out on their progress, & once they arrived, yeah, they were a little small, but they've made a wonderful recovery & it's all good!

Best to you & your kiddos!!!
  • Thanks for the feedback! Guess I just need to chill out a bit. ;)

  • My babies were really big on the last scan... Like 97%. They told me to expect a huge drop next time. It's normal.
