TTC after 35

Temping/O-ing question

This is our first month TTC#2. I use FF, but only to chart. Pre-baby #1, I pretty much always "knew" when I was O-ing and successfully conceived two pg back to back, although we lost the 1st one. I thought after baby #1 was born, that I was pretty sure too, given the symptoms, etc of when I was O-ing. My cycle is 28-29 days but I think I'm ovulating a lot later than I used to. Without being flamed, how does that even work? Meaning, if my cycle is still the same length, how does the ovulation cycle change? Yes, I'm not getting it, but please don't flame! Also, how accurate is temping?

Re: Temping/O-ing question

  • So, here are the basics: your cycle has two phases. The first phase is the follicular phase. This phase is from Cycle Day 1 until ovulation. The second phase of your cycle is your luteal phase (LP). Typically, the follicular phase can change from cycle to cycle. The length of your luteal phase is fairly constant and is not affected by stress, illness, etc.  If you have lurked any on the TTGP board, you might see women say that their period is "late".  The typical response is that they are not late, but instead probably ovulated later than they thought they did.

Taking your Basal body temperature, using ovulation predictor strips, and tracking other fertility signs can help you pinpoint ovulation, though only your BBT (or an ultrasound from your doctor) can confirm if you actually did, indeed, ovulate.

Check out the website www.fertilityfriend.com. It has a series of wonderful tutorials and the site is free to use and to track your basal body temperature.  So very helpful!  Also, there is a book called Taking Charge of Your Fertility that is an excellent resource for understanding the details of how your reproductive system works. I highly recommend both of these.

  • Hi, all! I don't mean to hijack the thread, but I've been wondering about some similar stuff. Do you ladies with more experience with fertility friend think it's worth upgrading to the VIP membership?

  • I received free VIP membership for a limited time when I first joined Fertility Friend. I absolutely loved it. If I had been more in a hurry to conceive at the time, I would have continued the VIP subscription. But the regular version offers all that is really needed. Just my opinion.

  • So, I may have O'd when I originally thought b/c I got a BFP tonight at about11 DPO. It's still very early, but I'm hopeful.

Yeah, I'm skeptical but hopeful. I've had losses before so I know not to get too excited. Thanks again, though!

  • @Davie813 the VIP memebership is nice to have, but to me it's the access to their forums that makes it worthwhile. Otherwise, you can save your money and get ovulation sticks instead.
