Hypnobabies Moms?

I'm sorry, I tried to google and came up with nothing...but that could just be because my iphone is dumb. I'm sure there were probably a few posts about it when we were pregnant.

Did any of you S12 moms use hypnobabies for childbirth? I'm just curious, as I'm planning on it this time around (mostly because I had a bad epidural experience with LO).

  • I'm super curious what that is. You get hypnotized to not feel pain? Off to Google!

  • I didn't use hypnobabies but I did go med free with my second after having an Epi with my first. The biggest thing that worked I my favor was that my labor was so short. I was 5cm before my labor began and was only I labor for about 3.5 hrs, including about 45 mins of pushing. Good luck!

  • If you go to parenting and page @overture, she can probably tell you a lot about it. I am 99% sure she did hypnobabies with her oct11 baby

Nope!  I didn't do hypnobabies, but I was pretty much in a trance the whole time. :)  I think my reptile brain just took over and hypnotized itself.

The book I found the most helpful for my "method" was The Birth Partner.  It's not really aimed at moms but the sections on relaxation, rhythm, and ritual were really interesting and helped me learn how to let go and "ride" each contraction.  I recommend reading it and highlighting the parts you want your SO and anyone else who is going to be in the room to read.

There are some regs on Natural Birth who have done hypnobabies, I would recommend asking them about it.

Thanks ladies! I was kind of hoping there'd be a few ladies here who used that method, but that's alright. There's someone on J14 who's an instructor and lots of ladies on a couple OB sites I've been following.

@meatballesq it's basically a childbirth education + self-hypnosis course. But not like weird comedian hypnosis where you're unaware of what you're doing. Basically just a really deep relaxation. It's so effective for some that people have undergone surgery without anesthesia using the technique! Talk about BSC!

@melsax Doulas are really expensive here too. I've been doing a lot of research and have seen several moms who did hypnobirthing (Mongan) first and then hypnobabies, and usually they have higher ratings of hypnobabies. My home study course was only $145 with shipping after a coupon code. I can send you a site with some comparisons - if you want em just PM me!

  • We did hypnobirth. I liked it. But due to complications wasn't able to fully finish my labor.
