It plugs into the wall, so you don't have to worry about batteries. The bottom is large, though, so it takes up a lot of space.
I second this one. We have the Snugamonkey version based on tons if recommendations from my mommy friends. The base is large, but we are planning on keeping it in the living room so it fits nicely.
I got the Snuga-something off CraigsList after watching diligently for like ~2 weeks and paid $60 -- there are a ton of them on the resale market and the one I got is practically unused (according to the seller her kid wanted nothing to do with it). One caveat - be sure to ask and make sure the one you're buying has a cord; some on the market are battery-only. As for the huge base, it does collapse down for moving/storing really easily - I was a little concerned about getting it down the stairs in our older home, but it was very easy.
This is the one I want. it swings both side to side or head to toe. It has a more compact foot print so doesn't take up as much room and still has the power plus so you can plug it in the wall and save the battery.
editted because i put the wrong link in.

I went old school only swings back and forth. Takes batteries or plugs into the wall. It's graco something or other. It has owls on it and matches my living room colors lol
We got the Graco Duetsoothe swing. The seat comes off and turns into a rocker. It plugs into the wall as well, we chose this over the mamaroo because it has a better range of movement. Hopefully LO likes it!
I have the snugabunny. It's quiet, has a cord so it doesn't use up batteries, and swings in either direction. Only thing to keep in mind is that it's kind of huge.
We got the momaroo, because we live in a city condo and it's great for small spaces. I got it at Buy Buy Baby for a super cheap price, because it was a floor model. Still under warrantee, so I'm not worried if there are issues. Haven't used it yet, but I have a couple friends IRL who love theirs.
Re: Swing suggestions?
We purchased it and took the netting off. Just my two cents, no real endorsement -- but worth a look-see!
We loved this one:

Barely any at all, unless you have one of the song/white noise settings on. It's very quiet.
