Measuring 3 weeks ahead

I went for an appointment over the weekend and am measuring 30 weeks, but I'm only 27 weeks. My glucose test and my 20 week anatomy scan were both normal. Has anyone else measured that much ahead? Did you end up back on track? This is my second pregnancy. My daughter was born at 39w, 3d and weighed 7lbs, 2oz. Just wondering if a big baby and/or delivering early may be in my future.

Re: Measuring 3 weeks ahead

  • Ditto PP.  It really means nothing unless you measure that far ahead at multiple appts and even then, they won't worry about it until you're near/at term.  It could just be baby's position, fluid levels, growth spurt, etc.

  • I was measuring 2 weeks ahead consistently with DS starting at around 28 weeks - and he was born 3 days shy of his due date and weighed in at 7 lbs, 13 oz. So for me, it didn't mean he was a big baby. I was just measuring bigger but apparently not b/c of him.

  • I'm a couple weeks behind most of you guys ... Stupid FTM question - measuring big how? As in, how do they take the measurement? I haven't been measured in any way lately.

  • I'd take he measurements with a grain of salt. I am measuring a little over 2 wks ahead with this pregnancy and I was measuring big with DS 1 as well. In fact with DS1 they told me he was going to be over 10lbs I was terrified. He wasnt he was born 7lbs 3oz

  • They are talking about fundal height measurement which starts at about 22 weeks

fundal height.  Starting at 24 weeks, my OB uses a tape measure to basically measure how big your uterus is.

  • It also depends on how you're carrying. I measured 3-4 weeks ahead with DD. Then she dropped & I was 2-3 weeks behind... Seriously it means nothing.

  • Hmm. That seems pretty inaccurate. Seeing as I have a nice layer of insulation on top of my bump.

  • They feel for your pelvic bone and the top of your uterus it's pretty accurate even if you have extra insulation :)

Ditto - they know what they're feeling for :)

  • This is my second and I've been measuring 3 weeks ahead the whole time pretty much. The dr just attributed it to me having had a baby less than 2 yrs ago. At my 20 scan the tech said it looked like baby measured about a week ahead. We will see what the doc says tomorrow!
  • I asked this same question only about a week ago. At 20 weeks I was measuring 22 weeks and then at my 25 week appointment I was measuring 28 weeks. My a/s showed she was measuring ahead and doc has said he thinks she's on the bigger side. I guess I just have to wait and see! :)
  • I'm having the opposite issue. I'm measuring 24 weeks and I'm almost 28. My doctor is sending me for another ultrasound just to check things out. I'm trying not to worry.

  • With DD, I measured ahead at every appointment, to the point where they finally did a 3D ultrasound to see how big she was going to be. She ended up being 7 lbs 5 oz, so not too big at all. I just had SO much fluid...I ended up gaining almost 40 lbs with that pregnancy.
  • I'm two weeks ahead but not based on fundal measurements -- it was based on head and abdomen circumference at our ultrasound. But I may be the exception because I'm having regular ultrasounds because of placenta previa.

Still, thanks all  for posting about how it can change... reading about all of your experiences is helpful!
