I can't stand flat sheets. They provide no extra warmth, and I especially don't like the way they tuck them in at hotels because I feel like they are a straight jacket for my legs. (I will use them at a hotel, though, since I doubt they wash the comforter all the time, but I grumble about them and untuck them right away.) At home, a heavy comforter or fuzzy throw blanket all the way! No flat sheets in this house!
My mom never used them growing up, so maybe that's why I can't stand them as an adult.
ETA: Apparently I lied and we do have a flat sheet or two in the house. My husband likes them, but I didn't realize because I am a blanket hog. There are my blankets and his blankets; we do not share. (And he does all the laundry, hence my not realizing.)
We used a flat sheet when we were sleeping in a queen but we haven't gotten a sheet set for our new king yet. So no flat sheet and 2 queen sized comforters lol we do have a king sized fitted sheet on that my mom had.
Nope because I like for them to be tucked in on the side and DH likes to have them loose. So I took them off and haven't had them in years. My boys don't sleep with them either. Another vote for fitted sheets and comforters.
@bc&lm exactly!! My mom tucks her top sheet in and i cant stand it! I cant even lay on my back because then my feet cant fit under there! I slept at her house bc we were getting our windows done and i pulled the sheets out. The next day she was like "i dont understand how you sleep, what did you do to my bed?" I said i felt like a sardine! Lol
I like to tuck my blankets around myself to keep me warm, but I like to do it on my own terms. When they are tucked into the bed, I feel confined yet don't get any warmth because they are not close enough to me, if that makes sense.
I'm so confused- do you non flat sheet people wash your comforters a lot? Or your duvet covers? I use a flat sheet and change all of the sheets, pillow cases, flat and fitted but only wash the duvet cover like once a month or so. Wouldn't it get gross quicker without a flat?! You are blowing my mind right now...
I second the question about laundry - do you wash the comforter or duvet often?. I can't imagine not using a flat sheet! I wonder if it's a regional thing.

We usually wash it when we wash our sheets and pillowcases. I get cold very easily, so I pile on the blankets--usually a comforter or two, and a couple of fuzzy blankets as well. We don't wash the extra blankets as often as the comforters that actually touch us, though.
Definitely use a flat sheet. We just got a comforter a couple of days ago; until then we just slept with a sheet and a quilt (it's usually really warm even in the winter here). I hate the feeling of a quilt against my skin, so sheet for sure. Now that we have the most heavenly comforter ever, I may reconsider that need...

I've never considered not using the flat sheet... It seems strange to me. It keep the scratchy blankets from rubbing against my legs and in summer its the only thing I sleep under...
