Baby, your breath wreaks!

Does your LO's breath stink like dirty, wet feet? You know what flip flops smell like after they get wet and you wear them a few times? Make sense? Cheesy, bacteria-y smell. It's not as horrible as I'm making it out to be, but I wanted to describe the smell. I wiped her gums and tongue with a wet gauze pad. I wonder if I can use a tiny dab of non fluoride tooth paste on the gauze. No white patches to indicate thrush. Doc checked her today at her appt and all was well. I didn't ask about her breath bc I noticed after we were home. Anyone else notice foul milky baby breath?

  • No, his breath smells fine to me. Is your LO BF or FF?
BF. No smell now after I wiped her mouth again. So weird.

  • @Xan84 - yes she does...I initially thought it was thrush bc it was white and I researched....it wasn't. Could be her tongue. Wish they had a baby tongue scraper! I love mine! :P

  • I agree with @sapatel1...could be reflux. That generally has that foul milk smell.

  • I'd use a wet wash cloth to wipe down her gums and tongue if it's that bad. I wouldn't start using toothpaste until closer to 1 year old though.

  • My mom told me that back in the day they were advised to boil water, cool it, and then take a soft towel dip it in the boiled water and rub it on baby's tongue and gums.

  • Yes, my baby's breath is sour and spoiled milk. It's due to reflux. You should read on other symptoms of reflux and see if she has it. :( my ped won't give us meds for it though bc according to him, it's not that bad. So here we are..suffering and smelling bad breath.
