July 2013 Moms

super late intro... dirty dirty lurker ever..

hello J13 moms
sorry for my late intro, but looking for a warm welcome on this board
i am FTM ,27 years from Tanzania, East Africa.. a mother of baby boy born 20th july 2013, through SVD med free delivery..
came across this board last year November , been lurking on and off, and i love the spirit of all moms in this board, solidarity and you guys are like family, i love that... i have been eagerly wanting to join in but seems luck is not on my side as i dont get much time to spend on internet due to connections troubles here and there but then so much to do, so little time..
i am a working mom, medical doctor(3 months experience- finished my training last year).. its not easy being a doc here, as i have to be competent in all aspects as am the pedi, obst and gyn, surgeon.. so spend lots of time at work  learning surgeries and everything.. my work place is 2 hours drive away from my house
i am breastfeeding, but introduced solids at 5months.. planning to BF for 2 years
i would like to participate as much as i can but forgive me as my environment" favours" me to be a bad lurker.. but a'l try my best, cant promise much..
but we differ in so many things , especially customs/culture and things of the like.. we dont have super bowl., halloween and things of the like,it may be hard sometimes to contribute... yeah, i know am a medical personnel, but i raise my baby in African style, no schedules, no "behavioural/skill" trainings whatsoever... but everything is running smoothly
i love you all... wanted to feel part of this family
-- i may reply ur qns late but a'l try my best

  • Cool! We span 3 continents now?! Love the solidarity across space and hearing about different perspectives. I'm sure we could learn lots from you.

  • Congratulations and welcome! I'm looking forward to hearing your perspectives and experiences. Not too long ago, we got to read about why African babies never cry. If you tell us African mamas don't ever need a cultural variation of yoga pants, wine, and chocolate, we may need you to help us understand more. ;)

    Please jump right in.

i actually read that article when it was posted and realy really made me want to share experience in that ... do you mind if a start a different thread adressing this?

  • What are some home cooking type dishes that are unique to your area? Do you cook by sight or measurement? Can you share the recipes? :D

well, we have a lot... but the most common ones are rice dishes.. Pilau and Biriyani.. But then we have raw banana dishes(actually we have raw for cooking, and ripe bananas special for cooking and ripe banana fruits) fish and steak dishes
we cook mostly by sight. most of the ingredients are fresh, local recipes dont use canned foods or artificial flavours
should i share the recipes in that special sticky thread?

  • Hello @EmumLys! Welcome :)

I am Mexican and I have lots of friends from Tanzania. I live in Delft, The Netherlands and there's a big African community here. I seriously love people from your country, most of them are engineers and are here to study master's degrees (that is how I met them).

I dream about visiting Tanzania soon to see some friends that have already returned.
