Vaccines-pediarix shot?

Not to open a huge can of worms but what shots are you getting at your lo's 2 month appt? Our dr uses the new pediarix shot that mixes 5 vaccines in one and then 4 other shots. 9 vaccines in one visit just seems like a ton and if lo had a reaction how would we know which shot caused it? I looked at my immunization record from when I was the same age and I only had 4. Is your lo getting the combo shot? Are you following the CDC schedule or spacing any vaccines out?

My kids only get 2 shots at once at each visit, one in each leg. I do have a friend whose daughter got the combo shot and her DD got a low grade fever and was fussy. I think you should talk to your pediatrician with any concerns you have.

DS got 5 shots and the oral rotavirus vaccine. He was supposed to only get 3 shots, but they had just run out of the 3-1 vaccine, so those 3 had to be given separately. He would have only had 2 shots, but he also had to get the first hep vaccine since he didn't get it in the hospital. ETA: DS was SUPER fussy the first few hours after the appointment, it was so sad. I gave him some Tylenol and put him in the Moby and he passed out. He was fine after a good long nap.

  • She got 3 shots and rotavirus(oral). She got 2nd hep b, dtap, hib and not sure what else.
  • Ugh I hope it's not 9! That's insane! LO goes Monday, I guess I'll just see. Interested to see how many others had though so I have a good idea for what I'm in for.

He got 3 shots and a liquid vax as well. I really wish I was a better parent and could tell you what they told me they were...but alas, I have no clue.
  • 3 shots and the oral for the rotavirus. That was it for us.

  • We got the oral at one month check up and he gets his others tomorrow but it should only be three.

  • She got 2 shots and the oral-- I think pediarix was one? I have it written down, but can't remember.

Isn't dtap technically 3 vaccines though?
  • it would be 9 total diseases that you are being vaccinated against, it should be done in 3 shots and one oral vaccine.  Just had ours this morning.

3 things you are vaxing for, but one vax.
  • We chose to stretch ours out a little and not do them all at once.  We feel that its a lot to introduce to his system all at once.  And if he has a reaction it'll be easier to narrow down the culprit.
At his 2 mo appt he got the one  big shot (not sure the name probably the pediarix.. the one with the TDap, Hep B, and Polio) and he also had the oral rotavirus.  In retrospect I probably would've waited on the Rotovirus as well.  We only are waiting 2 wks to do the others.  Not sure how we are going to proceed from there.  We will discuss with the Pedi at the 2wk when my husband can be there as well.
LO handled his first set pretty well.  Just a little tired that night.  We'll see how he handles the rest next week.

  • Our LO got the Pediarix (DTaP, polio, HepB), Hib, Prevnar (pneumococcal), and oral rotovirus. She didn't have any side effects, despite being very small for her age. Delaying vaccines goes against expert recommendation and puts your baby at increased risk for life-threatening diseases.

  • We break shots up. No more than 2 pokes at a time, was our rule. We got remaining shots 2 weeks later.

  • She got Pediarix at her 2 mo appt, then we spaced out the other shots, one a week until she was caught up.
