does anyone know about a thyroid abnormality in the newborn genetic screening?  My pediatrician called tonight and said I need to bring dd in tomorrow morning for further testing.  she'll be 1 month tomorrow.

 very nervous.

thanks.

Re: abnormal thyroid in newborn question

  • it is pointless to say don't worry - you will regardless of any post.

The good thing is -- they found it.

The second good thing is a thyroid condition detected early is amazing because there are tons of different ways to treat it with a synthetic product that you would just feed in a bottle.

Please don't worry - talk to the dr about any questions - stay off the internet if it builds more uncertainty.

  • My daughter was diagnosed with Congenital Hypothyroidism at 6 days old. I remember "the call" from the doctor, it was very scary. However, CH can be treated, my daughter will take a pill everyday for the rest of her life. She is now six months old and developmentally right on track.

Does she have any symptoms? REALLY sleepy, constipation, trouble feeding, horse cry?

Good luck, please let me know if you have any more questions.

And, I agree, don't search too much on the internet!
