Soooo before I had my LO I thought putting your kid on a leash was rediculous. Now I have him and he's crazy and hates holding my hand in stores. I am seriously considering this. Anyone have them and like them? Opinions please.
But honestly, I don't know that I'd use one for an average trip to the store. I think that is a perfect, safe opportunity to teach hand-holding, listening, etc.
I would also say for an average store trip my kids were still in a cart or stroller most of the time at 15 months. Or maybe in an ergo on my back. Walking on their own didn't' happen as much until closer to 2, I think. When they do walk, they aren't required to hold hands but they must walk next to me and by the cart. If they don't, they ride. End of story.
same here. we have leashes too (and like you, i was mortified at the thought of "leashing" kids before i had kids!) and only use them for long outdoor outings and if it's going to be crowded. ds isn't much of a runner--he's pretty timid, whereas dd is all over the place and has no fear.
Naw, I'm still anti-leash. My kid is even kind of a runner, but if he won't hold my hand, he gets carried or put in the stroller, both of which he hates.
I'm just curious, why is it better to carry or put in a stroller? (I'm asking honestly, not being sarcastic or passive aggressive here.)
I think the leashed backpacks have a time and a place. I used (with my son, daughter isn't walking) them to help my son gain some independence while still being able to keep him safe. We go on a lot of walks and being able to have a little roam room drastically helped his timidness.
We used one at the airport and Disney World. DD loves it. She brings it to me so she can wear the backpack at home. I don't use it for normal shopping trips though.

My kids are pretty active and can be wild and we haven't needed one. I used to think they were tacky but after having kids I get it. Particularly for very crowded places. Plus, I don't want to judge people for trying to keep their kids safe.
I just bought DD one. We will use it in the airport. I never thought I would put her on a leash, but I am concerned about the high volume of people. When we are at the store she stays in the stroller. I usually let her play or walk around before running errands. She is not much of a runner, but she has tried a couple of times.
