Anyone still dealing with Reflux?

I know a lot of us had reflux babies early on but is anyone still battling it? R has had a constant ear infection or fluid filled ears since he was 3 months old. We've been on every antibiotic under the sun and it will clear up the infection but those suckers just won't open up so the fluid can't drain. He's still on Zantac but I'm wondering if I should be asking to switch to something stronger. He seems pretty miserable and has all the symptoms of his reflux except the projectile vomiting. If I miss a dose it's obvious right away. Anyone else still battling? I thought they were supposed to grow out of it by now.

I'm sorry to hear that. DD still has reflux and is still on Zantac. I always heard it can last up to 1 year but that's less likely, well hear we are going on 9 months.

We haven't had ear infection issues but she recently started spitting up again. She hadn't spit up at all for a couple months but the last two weeks it's been more frequent.

What dose is your LO on? My dd gets 2.1 ml twice a day. Definitely talk to the pedi if he still seems unhappy with correct dosage for his weight.

  • R is on 1.3 mL of Zantac but I'm not sure the concentration. It's our third medicine. He just went back today and he's just shy of 22lbs. After reading your post I emailed the doc to see. I had to work today so my mom brought him in and she forgot to ask.
  • My DD is probably only 18lbs so maybe your dosage is low.
  • @nailqueen Thanks! I sent an email to the pedi and she said wait three days with this new medicine he's on for his ear issues. If he's still not feeling better she'll try something stronger.
  • DD still has it. GI put her on Nexium twice a day for it.
It's a powder that you mix with a bit of water, and it must taste good b/c DD likes it.
  • Nexium works differently than medications like Zantac, and so for our daughter, it works better. It cost a lot more, but it works better.
  • My GI said that Zantac may actually stop working or lose its efficacy after a while. We just switched our little one to Prevacid 2 ml 2x per day. She seems much better now.

  • Yes. We just got switched to Prevacid and it's so much better. He gets a tablespoon once a day. We give it to him at night and he's so much better now.
  • Hmmm...I wonder if I should ask the doc about switching meds. My DD is up every 2 hours all night most nights. I wonder if her reflux is bothering her.
  • Sorry I am not personally going through this, but when I was a six or seven years old I had ear infections a lot. My mom put a clove of garlic in olive oil for like a week let it sit then to a dropper of it in my ear let it sit for a min. then I would roll over and let it drain. It might be a little difficult with such a LO and I don't know all the symptoms of reflux but If the ear infection is a major problem perhaps you could try this. I hope it helps. Sorry your little one is sick.

This is my LO too! I am not sure if I should be concerned or not. It has been daily for the past couple weeks.
