October 2014 Moms

My yogurt is giving me heartburn.

I'm trying so hard to eat better, but this Fage yogurt is killing me right now.  It's the one with honey and I mixed in a handful of granola (okay, significantly more than a handful), but something about it is burning up my insides like never before.  I usually buy Stonyfield Organic greek yogurt, but Fage was on sale last week.

I just want a big fat bagel with loads of cream cheese.

What do you eat for breakfast?  What do you wish you ate for breakfast?  ;)

Re: My yogurt is giving me heartburn.

  • I just came off of weight watchers :) I am a lifetime member but had to put a hold on my account due to being preggers. I am not counting points right now but am def still eating healthy. I attempted to have a raspberry yoplait yogurt yesterday and I couldn't stand it! It made me  nauseous right away. It is the only flavor that has gotten to me so far. This morning I have fruit and an english muffin. I am going to attempt to have strawberry flavored yogurt today. Yesterday I have egg whites and turkey bacon, but the egg whites tasted weird to me. Food aversions are def. happening, but no heart burn yet.

My hubby made wings for super bowl yesterday and I couldn't eat them. The minute I put it to my mouth the smell and taste got to me. I knew it was going to bother me because I couldn't stand the smell while he was cooking them, but I attempted anyway!

  • My go to breakfast is steel cut oats with banana and greek yogurt, but the thought of that bagel with cream cheese is tormenting me now!

  • @Christine9866 - congrats on being a WW lifetime member!  I've never done WW, but I have a bunch of friends who do.  Good for you.

@meggiev123 - I'm planning to make some steel cut oats in the crockpot tomorrow night.  DD only eats breakfast at home on days she goes to daycare (so that's the only time I eat breakfast at home, too), and she's going on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this week, so I'll make them tomorrow night and she and I will eat them the end of the week.

  • I had heartburn so bad at about 4 am it woke me from a dead sleep and I sat straight up and gagged on stomach acid. Scared the shit out of H. I'm prone to it, and I shouldn't have had potato skins last night (but, Super Bowl, okay, not really, it was Downton Abbey). I have never been a good breakfast eater. I used to just have a Diet Coke, but I've switched over to the LaCroix waters. I do know that today I'm going to make myself eat more veggies because I've been craving starchy things and it's making me feel bleh.

  • Ugh... I hope I dont get heartburn too bad this time. Last time, water gave me heartburn! I had it bad the whole time.

For breakfast, I had a breakfast burrito I made and froze awhile back. It was good but it made my stomach churn after I ate it.

@talkativ15 Eat your sandwiches! Ive heard there is more of risk with bagged greens than with deli meat. I craved Subway so much last time. Its ok. :)
  • I bought coconut Greek yogurt... Never having had it before and it was just what I wanted! Mixed it with some strawberries and blueberries and some sliced almonds it was great. Now lunch is coming up and I made a nice salad with tons of veggies, avacado, and blue cheese and don't want it... Thinking a subway veggie sandwich :) lol lunch is always going to throw me for a loop since I can't just have a good old sandwich!
OMG, your salad sounds delicious!  What I wouldn't give for a spinach, strawberry and blue cheese salad with honey balsamic right now!  I had lentils for lunch.

And I agree with PP, you should eat your sandwiches if you want them.

  • This thread is making me hungry even though I just ate lunch. I've been having more trouble with my greek yogurt as well. Some mornings it's just so...sour. I just mix in a ton of fruit, a little honey or maple syrup, and something crunchy on top. This morning I had it with strawberries and pumpkin seeds. The fruit really helps.

For lunch I had a kale salad with grilled chicken, lemon, and parmesan and then sat at my desk at ate like 15-20 clementine oranges.

  • @AlisonPDX - when you have kale salad, do you wilt the kale first or anything, or just eat it completely raw?  I'm sort of new to eating kale, and I've heard that 1) it's kind of bitter raw and 2) the nutrients in it are more bioavailable when its cooked a little.  I've heard of "massaging" your kale if you're going to eat it raw, and that's also kind of weird to me.

I love cooked kale, though, and we've started putting it in everything!

  • @SusieBW We usually eat it cooked but for salads I keep it raw. I use the flat dinosaur kale, remove the stems, and slice it up really thin. The curly-leaf variety is the really bitter variety. I don't find the dinosaur kale very bitter but if is still too bitter for you you can also buy baby kale that isn't bitter at all.  I'll admit that I don't know enough about steamed vs. raw but I've heard that cooking it increases it's ability to bind bile acids. I'm not even sure what that means though. I like the variety of sometimes eating it raw and sometimes cooked.
